Preity Zinta's father, Durganand Zinta was an army officer

Preity Zinta was born on January 31, 1975, in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, to an army officer, Durganand Zinta and Nilprabha Zinta. The gorgeous actress has been raised in a disciplined environment, courtesy of her father, who was a brave officer in the Indian army. Preity completed her education at the Convent of Jesus and Mary Boarding School in Shimla. However, when Preity Zinta was thirteen years old, her father, Durganand Zinta passed away in a car accident.

Once in a media interaction, Preity Zinta revealed how her father turned her into a strong woman. She recalled a childhood incident on a hot summer day when the Zinta family went on hiking on the tallest peak near Aurangabad. Preity shared that she was barely in her teens and decided to opt out of the hike and dropped her bottle to indicate she was giving up. Her father, Durganand Zinta instantly commanded her to pick up her bottle, fix her gear and finish the climb. When she made it to the top, her father told her:

"What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. You should learn to fight and stand firm for your reasons."

Once, Preity shared that her father always encouraged her to be an independent woman. He would often tell her that an Indian woman is first dependent on her father when she's young, then her husband after her marriage, and later on her son. However, Preity's father, Durganand never wanted her to be dependent on anyone. He wanted her to be the master of her own destiny.

Preity Zinta ventured into cricket and became a businesswoman to fulfil her father, Durganand Zinta's dream

Preity Zinta made history when she ventured into the business of cricket. She was the first actress, who stepped into the business world. In an interaction with the Filmfare, Preity revealed that her father dreamt of opening a sports club, and that's where her idea of entering the cricket world came from. She was quoted as saying:

"I was at the top. I wanted to do something new. Films are a part of me. But I’m not comfortable dedicating my entire life to them. My father’s dream was to open a sports club. I guess that’s where I got this idea. I wanted to be a businesswoman and show the world that an actress too can have an investment portfolio. At that point it was just a 5 million USD investment which I did in partnership. But it wasn’t easy."

Well, it is said that behind every successful man, there is a woman. However, we truly believe that behind every successful woman, there is a man, who is her father. And he gives her the freedom to fly, fall and live life on her own terms. The way Preity Zinta has been leading her life is proof that she has been raised by a strong man, who turned her into an independent lady.
