PPL Sends Legal Notice To 'Bigg Boss 19' For Using Songs Without Permission, Demands Rs. 2 Crores

Bigg Boss 19, hosted by Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan is a popular reality show, which has managed to grab a lot of attention because of its intense drama. But recently, the show has found itself in the middle of a controversy. Reportedly, a legal notice has been sent to the makers of the show claiming that they have used two copyrighted songs without permission.

PPL has sent a legal notice to Bigg Boss 19, demanding Rs. 2 crores

The issue started when Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) mentioned that the makers of Bigg Boss 19 used two popular songs, Chikni Chameli and Dhat Tere Ki without permission. Reportedly PPL has claimed that Endemol Shine India did not have a public performance licence before using the songs. For the unversed, PPL is a music licensing organisation in India that represents many record labels.

Two Songs

Since the production company did not seek permission, PPL sent a legal notice to them, in which they have demanded Rs. 2 crore as damages and licence fees for the alleged unauthorised use. PPL has also issued a cease-and-desist demand, asking the show to stop using those recordings until proper permission is obtained. In this case, PPL is standing up for the public performance rights for the two songs on behalf of Sony Music Entertainment India.

Normally, such disputes often end in settlement, but since the notice is by PPL, there are high chances that either the makers of Bigg Boss 19 have to pay the asked amount, or PPL might drag this to court if no agreement is reached. According to a report by Mid-day, the two songs were used in episode 11, which premiered on September 3, 2025. The legal notice was dated September 19, 2025 and reportedly was served by advocate Hiten Ajay Wasan.
