The couple had reportedly tied the knot in 2016 and co-owned the For God’s Cake bakery. Puneet and his wife also owned the Woodbox Cafe, which shut down a while back. The deceased bakery owner’s family alleges that Puneet’s wife had tortured him ever since the relationship soured and even dared him to end his life.
Puneet Khurana, a Delhi-based bakery owner, was found dead by suicide in his home on January 2, 2024. He was reportedly hanging in his house in Model Town’s Kalyan Vihar area. Following the tragic revelation, Puneet’s family have come forward with allegations that his wife, Manika Pahwa had been torturing him after their relationship deteriorated, due to which, he was unhappy with her. Puneet and Manika were reportedly caught up in a contentious divorce dispute.
In a report by ANI, the deceased’s sister alleged that along with Manika, her sister and parents were also responsible for harassing Puneet. She can be quoted as saying:
"Manika Pahwa, her sister and parents mentally tortured and harassed him. There is a video recording of around 59 minutes, in which Puneet has mentioned details of harassment he faced. The woman had even hacked Puneet’s social media account."
An update from the police suggests that the last person to speak to Puneet Khurana prior to his tragic demise was his wife, Manika Pahwa. The conversation was seemingly about their joint bakery business, and the two could be heard having a heated argument in it. Puneet’s family further alleges that Puneet’s wife recorded the conversation and forwarded it to her relatives. The police have seized Puneet Khurana’s phone for further analysis. An India Today report shared a snippet of the alleged conversation between the two, in which Puneet was heard telling Manika:
"You are calling me at 3 am, can’t you sleep? You disrespected me and my family. All these things have no meaning right now… Tell me what you want now."
Just days before Puneet Khurana’s tragic death, his wife, Manika Pahwa shared a lengthy Instagram post discussing ‘toxicity and narcissistic abuse’ without naming anyone. In it, she mentioned that she was ‘healing well’ and ‘striving to be better and indifferent’ after the abuse she had suffered. Part of her note can be read as:

"I am alive, healing well, even after all the toxicity and narcissistic abuse, I am striving every day, every second, to be better and to be indifferent," she began her lengthy social media post. I don't even wish to pray that karma should deal with the abusers. No it's okay. Let the higher forces decide what's best for me, what's best for them. Well feminism suits me, as idealistic values are my core and feminism means giving and getting mere respect. To one another. No slave treatment, and no stopping some girl to speak her mind."
The news of Puneet Khurana’s tragic death by suicide comes mere weeks after Bengaluru-based techie Atul Subhash took his own life on December 9. Atul, too, had alleged that he had been severely harassed by hi wife and her relatives. He was found hanging in his Bengaluru apartment with a placard reading "Justice is due."
Our hearts go out to Puneet Khurana’s family in this trying time.
