Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Reliance Foundation's Vantara at Jamnagar, Gujarat, where he interacted with rescued animals, birds, and played with exotic species.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Gujarat was a heartwarming one. His visit took a heartening turn as he inaugurated and explored Reliance’s Vantara, one of India’s largest wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation centres. The prime minister inspected the rescue facilities, treatment and specialised care at Vantara and had the best time feeding and playing with rescued animal cubs, orangutans, elephants, and more.

Recently, during his visit to Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the Vantara Wildlife Rescue And Rehabilitation Centre. Nestled within the Reliance Jamnagar Refinery Complex, this 3,000-acre sanctuary is home to over 1.5 lakh rescued animals from more than 2,000 species, providing them with specialised care and a second chance at life.

PM Modi was seen cutting the rope to inaugurate the rescue facility, and he was attended by Mukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani, Anant Ambani, and Radhika Merchant Ambani. After the inauguration, the Prime Minister’s tour began at Vantara’s wildlife hospital, an advanced medical facility equipped with MRI, CT scans, and ICUs for the rescued animals. The hospital houses specialised departments, including wildlife anaesthesia, cardiology, nephrology, endoscopy, dentistry, and internal medicine, all tailored for animals.

During his visit, the prime minister observed a majestic Asiatic lion undergoing an MRI scan. He also visited the operation theatre, where veterinarians were performing surgery on a leopard that had suffered injuries in a road accident.

After his tour of the high-end hospital, PM Modi set out to explore the rescued wildlife at Vantara. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Anant Ambani, who spearheaded the launch of the 3,000-acre animal welfare initiative. PM Modi fed and played with rescued Asiatic Lion Cubs and Clouded Leopard Cubs. He also fed the cub of a rare white lion born in Vantara after its mother was rescued.

Once abundant in India but now rare, Caracals are also bred at Vantara for eventual release into the wild. PM Modi had close encounters with a Golden Tiger, Snow Leopards, and White Lions, some of which were rescued from circuses and illegal captivity. He also had encounters with some rescued exotic species, including chimpanzees, orangutans, okapi, hippos, zebras, giraffes, and a rhino calf. He also saw a two-headed snake and a two-headed turtle.

The prime minister also visited the world’s largest elephant hospital, where elephants are given jacuzzi therapy to ease arthritis and foot ailments. One of the most symbolic moments of the visit was when PM Modi set rescued parrots free, embodying Vantara’s mission of rehabilitation and return to the wild.

PM Modi's lion safari at Gir National Forest

On the occasion of World Wildlife Day, on March 3, 2025, PM Modi went on a safari in Gir, home to the majestic Asiatic Lion. Taking to his Instagram handle, the Prime Minister shared glimpses of his safari, where he was seen capturing photos on his camera. The caption to the post read:

"This morning, on #WorldWildlifeDay, I went on a Safari in Gir, which as we all know is home to the majestic Asiatic Lion. Here are some glimpses, I urge you all to come and visit Gir in the future."
