The Indian advertising veteran left his friends, family, and acquaintances heartbroken by his demise at 70. The ad industry could've seen more magical creations from Piyush, but his death from medical complications snatched that opportunity from viewers. After his passing, his sister, popular Bollywood actress and singer, Ila Arun, shared what Piyush meant to their family. She also revealed the reason for his sudden death.

What was the cause of Piyush Pandey's passing?

The Padma Shri awardee and creative force behind Ogilvy India, Piyush Pandey, quietly left the world, leaving his surviving family devastated. Hours after his death, his sister, Ila Arun, issued the first statement regarding the loss of her 'precious brother'. She told The Indian Express that Piyush was suffering from pneumonia and succumbed to complications from the ailment on the morning of October 24, 2025. Ila confirmed Piyush's time of demise as 5:50 a.m. She shared an affectionate bond with her brother, Piyush, and opened up about his importance and necessity in the Pandey family. Referring to her late sibling as 'the life of our family', she said:

"My brother passed away at 5:50 a.m. this morning because of pneumonia complications. He was in the ICU. As a sister, I can say he was a precious brother and the life of our family."

Who was Piyush Pandey? What was he famous for?

Piyush Pandey (1955-2025) was a legendary Indian advertising professional who revolutionised the advertising industry by creating campaigns that deeply resonated with Indian audiences. As the Chief Creative Officer Worldwide and Executive Chairman of Ogilvy India for over four decades, he shifted the industry away from Western-centric advertising to authentic, emotion-driven desi storytelling. He was known for giving brands a distinct Indian voice, which turned simple commercials into cultural touchstones.

Piyush's career was marked by numerous awards and accolades, including the Padma Shri in 2016 and the Lions of St. Mark at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018. He was famous for creating many iconic and beloved advertisements and slogans throughout his career. Some of his timeless, humorous advertisements include the Fevicol ad, in which the adhesive's firm grip holds a bus together; Cadbury Dairy Milk's Kuch Khaas Hai campaign; Asian Paints' Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai campaign; and Vodafone's memorable ZooZoo characters. Besides commercial ads, Piyush also crafted political slogans like "Ab ki baar, Modi sarkar" for the 2014 Indian general election.

Advertising legend, Piyush Pandey, is survived by his wife, Nita Pandey, and eight siblings. His notable siblings are film director, Prasoon Pandey and singer-actor, Ila Arun. During his lifetime, Piyush Pandey often cited his wife, Nita, as a source of inspiration for his work and his authentic, empathetic approach to advertising. While little public information is available about her professional life, she was known as an advocate for animal welfare. In a 2017 interview with ET BrandEquity, Piyush Pandey described how his wife's observation about her childhood experience with eating eggs provided valuable insight into consumer behaviour.
