Hours after his death, his sister, Ila Arun, issued the first statement regarding the loss of her 'precious brother'. She told The Indian Express that Piyush was suffering from pneumonia and succumbed to complications from the ailment on the morning of October 24, 2025. Ila confirmed Piyush's time of demise as 5:50 a.m. She shared an affectionate bond with her brother, Piyush, and opened up about his importance and necessity in the Pandey family. Referring to her late sibling as 'the life of our family', she said:

"My brother passed away at 5:50 a.m. this morning because of pneumonia complications. He was in the ICU. As a sister, I can say he was a precious brother and the life of our family."

Piyush's career was marked by numerous awards and accolades, including the Padma Shri in 2016 and the Lions of St. Mark at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018. He was famous for creating many iconic and beloved advertisements and slogans throughout his career. Some of his timeless, humorous advertisements include the Fevicol ad, in which the adhesive's firm grip holds a bus together; Cadbury Dairy Milk's Kuch Khaas Hai campaign; Asian Paints' Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai campaign; and Vodafone's memorable ZooZoo characters. Besides commercial ads, Piyush also crafted political slogans like "Ab ki baar, Modi sarkar" for the 2014 Indian general election.
