“We still don't have a microwave, can you believe it? He believes they emit waves that are harmful. If we have to heat food, we do it on the stove. No microwaves. We have fought over installing an air conditioner in our bungalow! Our house in the city has a lot of cross-ventilation, so it was never a big problem there. But in the bungalow, it's humid. We've fought so much about this. One day, he was sitting quietly and sweating, and that's when I told him, 'Want to get that AC now?' And he agreed.”
In the same interview with Atul Taishete's YouTube channel, Mridula remembered her days of struggle. She managed the finances when she moved to Mumbai with her husband, Pankaj. The 48-year-old actor was trying to make a mark in the Bollywood industry then. However, she had to adjust to Pankaj's peculiar habits, including not keeping plastic containers at home. Mridula joked and quipped:
“He sometimes jokes that he's a star now, and should be treated with some respect. I give him one stern look and he shuts up. He's environmentally conscious, so he would keep telling me not to buy plastic containers at the market. He doesn't know how to run a house; we can't just live off one kind of daal and some rice. We need containers! We would have massive fights about buying plastic containers. These were the happiest moments of my life."
During an interview with the same YouTube channel, Mridula revealed that she was not accepted by her mom-in-law . She admitted that she had a love marriage at a time when society did not allow it. The couple had first met at Mridula's brother's wedding, who married Pankaj's sister. The affection Mridula and Pankaj had for each other had grown, but their relationship was not accepted as Mridula belonged to a higher social class. She said:

"It's still not acceptable. We aren't blood relatives, but in our culture, it is unacceptable for a woman to be married into a family of a lower stature, if another woman has already been married into a family of a higher stature. And because my sister-in-law had been married above her station into my family, I couldn't be married into their family, which was considered of a lower stature."
Pankaj Tripathi and Mridula, who had a love story since school, married in 2004 and are blessed with a daughter.
