Pankaj Dheer Was Recovering From Cancer, Puneet Issar Met Him Just 20 Days Before His Sudden Death

Veteran actor, Pankaj Dheer's sudden demise left the entire Bollywood and television industry mourning. Several celebrities such as Hema Malini, Salman Khan, Dipika Kakar, Shoaib Ibrahim, Kushal Tandon and many more paid their last respect to him. Recently, his best friend, Puneet Issar, revealed that he met him 20 days ago at his home.

Pankaj Dheer and Puneet Issar were family friends

Pankaj Dheer was known for playing the role of 'Karna' in B.R. Chopra's Mahabharat. On the other hand, Puneet Issar portrayed the role of 'Duryodhan'. Their bond and friendship were clearly visible in the epic saga. Recently, in an interview with The Times of India, Puneet revealed that Pankaj wasn't his brother on-screen but in real life too. He said:

"He wasn’t just my brother in Mahabharat — he was my brother in real life too. Our fathers were friends, and our families have known each other for years. He recovered once, but unfortunately, the disease relapsed last year, and he had been undergoing treatment since then. Today, I’ve lost my brother."

Puneet further revealed that their friendship deepened while shooting for Mahabharat. They had an affectionate bond. Puneet would lovingly call Pankaj 'Pinks' while he would refer to him as 'Puneetos'. He revealed that he met Pankaj twenty days ago at his home, and he is still in shock. He was quoted as saying:

"I met him just 20 days ago at his home. I’m still in shock. I can’t even begin to describe the good times we shared. His son, Nikitin, grew up in front of me."

Pankaj Dheer got married to Anita Dheer in 1979 and was blessed with a son, Nikitin Dheer. The veteran actor's last post featured a special evening with his wife, Anita. Now, it holds a deeper meaning as Pankaj will never post anything on it.

In the photo, the couple was enjoying the scenic view of a heritage place with a candlelight dinner in the open space. Pankaj was dressed up in a soft pink-toned shirt, while his wife wore a purple, floral-hued kurta with subtle makeup and hair left open. 

Talking about his wife, Anita Dheer, she is a famous Bollywood costume designer. She has designed outfits for films such as Boxer, Ikke pe Ikka and Victoria No. 203. Talking about his son, Nikitin Dheer is a well-known actor. He is also married. Pankaj Dheer's daughter-in-law, Kratika Sengar Dheer, is also a renowned television actress. Kratika and Nikitin are blessed with a daughter. And the Dheer family has been one of the crucial parts of the television industry for several years.

Pankaj Dheer was from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. His father was a famous director in Hindi cinema. And just like his father, Pankaj also wanted to follow in his footsteps, but god had bigger plans for him. In 1983, he got his debut film, Sookha. After which, he got his iconic role of 'Karna' in Mahabharat. By the 1980s and early 1990s, Pankaj Dheer had played many character roles. 

Pankaj Dheer was last seen in Farah Khan's vlog, alongside Puneet Issar.
