Palak Tiwari Takes A Stand Against Online Trolling Of Star Kids, 'Our Only Aim Is To Maintain..'

Palak Tiwari, daughter of the iconic television star Shweta Tiwari, is all set for the release of her second work on the big screen, The Bhootnii. She is gradually carving her own space in showbiz with her acting, but following in her mother's footsteps in a world where she once ruled is not bereft of challenges. Ahead of her film’s release, Palak got real about the nepotism debates, speaking up about the online trolling that she and her fellow star kids have to face daily.

Palak Tiwari opens up on carrying the weight of her mother’s legacy

In a recent chat with Filmfare, Palak Tiwari got candid about the trolling that her friends like Ananya Panday, Khushi Kapoor and Ibrahim Ali Khan often have to face on the internet for being star kids. Palak did not mince words when she said:

"People on the internet are unkind in general. But yes, I do feel it comes with a certain responsibility. The way that I try to look at it is that they are protective of our parents as celebrities and identities because they have grown up with them.”

Palak also opened up about dealing with nepotism and the weight of meeting the audience’s expectations after Shweta’s performance. Shweta Tiwari’s portrayal of ‘Prerna’ in the popular TV serial, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, remains one of the most beloved characters of Indian television. It’s no wonder that stepping into the spotlight brings with it a lot of expectations for Palak, given her mother’s enduring popularity. Talking about how fans grew protective of Shweta, Palak shared:

“I know Prerna has shaped so many people's idea of love, which is problematic. My gal was confused (laughs). But I know that they are so protective of Shweta Tiwari the person, that they sometimes even let that take precedence over her as my mother. When they see her daughter Palak, they think, 'Oh, she will never match up to her'. They are protective of our celebrity parents, and that's where it comes from."

Palak Tiwari speaks up on the nepotism debate

Considering everything, Palak emphasised that star kids like her are under no illusion that they can replace their superstar parents. They are also their biggest fans and admire their work. Speaking for all ‘star kids’, Palak mentioned that they only want to maintain their parents’ legacy rather than sabotage it. In her words:

"What they forget is that we never want to match up to our parents. We are well aware that we could never touch that, and we are their biggest fans. So, if you admire my mom, imagine how much I admire her; at least tenfold. I think I can speak for all the star kids, as you said, our only aim is to just maintain that legacy and not harm it. Eventually, in time, we will get there."
