Nana Patekar served the nation by joining the Indian Army during the 1999 Kargil War

Bollywood has showcased several movies, wherein actors played the roles of brave Indian soldiers, but there have been several actors, who have served in the Indian Army even in real life. One of them being Nana Patekar. The actor who began his acting career back in 1978 once served the country by joining the defence forces back in the 1999 Kargil War.

During the time, the actor expressed his wish to join the Indian Army and serve the nation, but no one supported this. As a result, he had to convince Defence Minister, George Fernandes. Well, his wish was rejected, but when the actor shared that he had gone through a rigorous training session by the Maratha Light Infantry during the shoot of Prahaar, George Fernandes gave the approval to Nana. In August 1999, he was posted as a captain in the Indian Army.

Late actor, Bikramjeet Kanwarpal served as an Indian Army officer

Late actor, Bikramjeet Kanwarpal also served the nation. He joined the Indian Army back in 1989, and he retired in 2002 as a Major. His father,  Lt Col Dwarka Nath Kanwarpal was also an Army officer, and seemingly he had been the one to incorporate values about this respected position in the actor. Apart from being a Major in the Indian Army, Bikramjeet was a famous actor. He made his debut in 2003, and showcased his skills in movies like Page 3, 2 States, and 24, along with some TV series. He passed away at the age of 52 due to COVID-19. After his demise, his co-stars often revealed that Bikramjeet would often walk down memory lane and talk about his days of working in the Indian Army.

Achyut Potdar also served the nation by working as an officer of the Indian Army

Achyut Potdar, who is famous for his role in the movie, 3 Idiots, also worked with the Indian Army. He served the nation by taking up the position of an Indian Army Officer. He first started his career as a professor in Madhya Pradesh, but later, he joined the Indian Armed Forces. When he was 44 years old, he joined the Hindi film industry and won hearts with his acting prowess. Achyut had been in the acting world for four decades and some of his most notable works include movies like Dabangg 2, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, and Parineeta, among so many others. If the reports are to be believed, the actor retired from his position in the Indian Army back in 1967.

Gufi Paintal served the nation during the Indo-China war

Senior actor, Gufi Paintal is not unknown to anyone. He is famous for his role as 'Shakuni Mama' in the popular series, Mahabharata. Well, Gufi Paintal also served the nation during the Indo-China war back in 1962. He once revealed to Dainik Bhaskar that he was studying engineering back then, and always wanted to be a part of the Indian Armed Forces. Back in those times, there were direct recruitments through colleges, and during the new talent hunt in his college, Gufi grabbed the officials' attention. He later joined the Indian Army and was posted in the Army Artillery on the China Border.

Anand Bakshi, one of India's most successful lyricists, worked with the Indian Navy

Anand Bakshi, one of the most successful lyricists ruled the world of music nearly for five decades and penned down lyrics for some of the most popular Hindi songs. But before starting his career in the Hindi film industry, Anand worked for the Indian Navy. He joined the Indian Navy back in 1944, after his family shifted to India post the partition. He served the nation till 1956.

Actor, Rehman was in the Indian Air Force

Rehman, one of the most famous actors, who ruled the Hindi film industry for nearly three decades also served the nation before trying his hand in acting. He was a pilot in the Royal Indian Air Force. He later quit his job to work in the acting world and won hearts with his performances in films like Pyar Ki Jeet, Badi Behen, Pardes, and Waqt. He made his debut in the 1940s and worked till the 1970s in Bollywood.

Rudrashish Majumder also worked with the Indian Army and retired as a Major

Rudrashish Majumder is a well-known face in the entertainment space who was seen in recent movies like Chhichhore, Hawa Singh, Mrs Undercover, and Jersey. He also is the face of several famous commercials. Apart from showcasing his skills in the glamour world, he was also an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy. He also worked with the Indian Army and joined the force in 2011, and it was in 2018, that he retired from his position.

Naseeruddin Shah's nephew, Mohammed Ali Shah worked with the Indian Army and was posted on the Indo-Pak border

Naseeruddin Shah's nephew, Mohammed Ali Shah, who was seen in movies like Agent Vinod, Haider, and Yaara, also worked with the Indian Armed Forces. Well, he played the role of the Army Officer in Haider, which was given to him, for his experiences to work with the Indian Army. He was posted on the Indo-Pak border for two years before stepping into the glamour world.
