Netflix’s One Piece live-action adaptation, based on Eiichiro Oda’s globally beloved manga, will soon come back with Season 2, and before we even have a full trailer out, it’s already been greenlit for a third season. The first look for season 2 was revealed during the annual One Piece Festival in Tokyo, and teases the crew’s new journey into the Grand Line. Alongside the adventure, season two will see many fresh news faces as well. Two major additions to the cast this season are Indian-origin actors, Charithra Chandran and Sendhil Ramamurthy, joining an ensemble that’s expanding in both diversity and talent.
Charithra Chandran joins the One Piece universe as ‘Miss Wednesday’, a pivotal character fans also know as ‘Princess Nefertari Vivi’. Previously, she was seen in another Netflix hit, Bridgerton, as ‘Edwina Sharma’. Charithra was born in Perth, Scotland, to Tamil parents, and has spent part of her childhood in India before returning to the UK.
Charithra's parents divorced when she was very young; hence, she spent part of her early life between India and England. She studied at Oxford High School and holds a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. She had trained with the National Youth Theatre, steadily building a strong acting career for herself.
Sendhil Ramamurthy will appear as ‘King Nefertari Cobra’, ruler of Alabasta and father to ‘Vivi’. His character is a noble leader, known for his compassion and wisdom, and he plays a vital role in the Alabasta arc. Sendhil, born in Chicago to Indian immigrant parents from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, is best known for his roles in Heroes and Netflix’s Never Have I Ever. His casting has left fans excited over the possible political storyline of Alabasta.
Both of Sendhil’s parents are physicians, and so is his sibling, but he himself has always been passionate about acting. He became a member of the Kappa Charge of Theta Delta Chi, and after playing parts in various theatrical dramas, his interest in acting grew, and he chose to pick up acting as a profession.
