Olivia Rodrigo Reveals Her Bond With Sabrina Carpenter After Rumoured Love Triangle, 'Such A Baby..'

Olivia Rodrigo is a popular pop star, who has often grabbed attention for her hit and iconic music. However, apart from her music, the singer has also made headlines regarding her relationships. For the unversed, in 2021, she found herself in the middle of a controversy when her name was dragged in between a rumoured love triangle involving Joshua Bassett and Sabrina Carpenter. Now, the singer opened up about the incident and shared her equation with Sabrina.

Recently, Olivia Rodrigo had a candid conversation with British Vogue, during which the singer-turned-actress opened up about her rumoured love triangle involving Joshua Bassett and Sabrina Carpenter. Sharing her current equation with Espresso singer, Olivia was quoted as saying:

"I think she's great. I'm so happy for all of her success, too. I love the album she's put out. It's just people just get weird and clickbaity. It's all love, though. I've talked to her many times."

Olivia Rodrigo recalls the tough time during the rumoured love triangle

During the same candid conversation, Olivia Rodrigo also opened up about the tough time when the rumoured love triangle started making rounds on social media. Olivia explained that she was 17-years-old when the rumours grabbed attention and it was the toughest time for her. She also stated that she still can’t believe that people could be that mean to her. In her words:

"Sometimes I meet a 17 or an 18-year-old nowadays and I'm like, Wow, you are such a baby. I can't believe people were that mean to me. I was going through a break-up, working a full-time job, making [Sour], a student in high school and taking, like, three AP [college-level] classes. Looking back, I always think, Wow, life will never be as hard as it was when I was 17."

When Sabrina Carpenter opened up about the rumoured love triangle

For those who do not know, in June 2025, Sabrina Carpenter had a conversation with Rolling Stone, during which she opened up about her rumoured love triangle. During the same, she explained that after the love triangle phase, she learned that she needs to trust herself and believe that things will eventually work out. She had shared:

"What that era taught me was to just trust myself, and trust that everything is going to work out the way it's supposed to, and trust that relationships are put into your life for a reason. You might not see that in the moment, but you see it later."

The rumoured love triangle between Olivia Rodrigo, Joshua Bassett and Sabrina Carpenter was one of the most talked about romances of 2021. Joshua and Olivia, reportedly met while working on the series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Soon, their on-screen chemistry turned into a real-life relationship. However, it is worth mentioning that their romance wasn't confirmed. Allegedly, around 2020, the duo broke up. 

This is when Sabrina Carpenter entered the picture. Soon, Sabrina and Joshua started hanging out together, which fueled dating rumours. Later, when Olivia released the song, Drivers License, fans assumed that the 'other woman' that was mentioned is Sabrina. 

Later, rumours around the love triangle began when Sabrina released the song, Skin, which seemed to be a reply to Olivia's song. And Joshua's songs, Lie Lie Lie and Only A Matter Of Time were seen as his side of the story. This began a debate on social media platforms as fans felt that there was a love triangle going on between the trio.
