Pawan Kalyan’s much-awaited film, They Call Him OG, released worldwide on September 25, 2025, and left his die-hard fans overwhelmed with emotions. The film has been released amid much hype, not just because of Pawan Kalyan's immense fandom, but also because it marks Bollywood’s heartthrob, Emraan Hashmi’s Telugu film debut.
Directed by Sujeet, OG tells the story of Ojas Gambheera (OG), a young Samurai, who trained under a secret society in Tokyo. At that point, a few gangsters create chaos in the community, leaving OG the lone survivor. OG then pledges his alliance to ‘Satya dada’, played by Prakash Raj, who has a port in Mumbai. After vanishing from Mumbai, OG was seen leading a peaceful family life with his wife, ‘Kanmani’, played by Priyanka Mohan and their child, Tara.
The villain, 'Omi Bhau', played by Emraan Hashmi, creates havoc, forcing OG to return to Mumbai. He returns seeking vengeance against rival crime lords. But what is the true identity of OG, and why was he sent into exile for years? The film spirals around these questions.
Pawan Kalyan’s OG is a mass entertainer that promises high-octane drama as well as power-packed action sequences. The early morning show was houseful with Pawan’s loyal fans celebrating the release with drums and fireworks. From Pawan’s grand entry to the introduction fight, everything in the film is purely for Pawan Kalyan fans.
Director Sujeet ensured that he portrayed his love for Pawan by hyping the titular character. He showcased Pawan in a classy yet massy gangster avatar. Emraan Hashmi shines brightly as a villain in his first Telugu film, bringing his usual charm and swag, whereas Sudev Nair leaves a mark despite his limited screen presence. Several easter eggs were also dropped in with reference to Saaho.

Apart from its style and glamour, the film lacks a coherent storyline and plot. It was a delight to watch Pawan in his massy avatar, but the story falls short as the original lacks a strong narrative. Sujeet could not give an elaborate execution. The second half of the story also has many dull moments, and many characters, such as Prakash Raj, Sriya Reddy, Arjun Das, and Priyanka Mohan, fail to leave a lasting impression. The climax of the film was effective, but it lacked excitement.
Despite lacking a proper storyline, the film is an ode to Pawan Kalyan. It is a love letter written by Sujeet for his favourite actor, Pawan Kalyan, showing his true fan boy moments. For a true Pawan Kalyan fan, the movie has all the elements they are looking for. One can go to the theatre and come back after being entertained. But for a critical audience, the film has a predictable storyline and underdeveloped characters.
