Weddings are joyous occasions in the bride and groom's lives. A celebration of love and union, which remains filled with food, fashion games, and a lot of nach-gaana. Well, in the digital era, people want to take a record of every single moment that is close to their hearts. While some of them have the potential to go viral, others just end up creating concern and controversy. The same happened as a video from an Odisha wedding made rounds on social media.

Two participants danced with three real cobras at an Odisha wedding

Recently, a video went viral from Chhedak village under Bansada panchayat of Bhadrak district. A wedding was happening in the village, and the participants were seen enjoying their hearts out. Well, the joyous occasion turned out to be furious as two snake charmers and a transgender were seen dancing with living Cobras. If the reports are to be believed, the procession took place on the roadside, and more than 100 onlookers were present there while the participants held three living cobras aloft. The onlookers were seen recording the act on their phones while cheering for the participants who danced with the Cobras.

Several clips of this act were shared on the social media platforms, which raised concerns. While the dance was being performed with the living Cobras and 100 onlookers were present, it surely became risky. As soon as the video was shared on social media platforms, netizens questioned about this act during a wedding festivity, as it raised concerns about people's safety.

Apart from that, this act has been viewed as a blatant violation of the law. In India, Cobras are meant to be protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. On the other hand, a report by the Times Of India revealed that Soubhagya Sahu had later shared that the dancers were hired from Bhubaneswar and fled from the scene before the officials arrived at the scene. As soon as this act took place, the Bhadrak Wildlife Division reached the place and rescued the three living cobras. No arrest has taken place after the incident. Bhadrak DFO, Soubhagya Sahu revealed that an investigation has been launched after this incident. As per Soybhagya:

"Probe is on to nab the dancers who were dancing by holding the cobras."

Live shows of snakes have been banned in India for a long time

While there's no precise percentage of how many snake charmers are still there in India, the Jogi-Nath community reportedly still depends on this occupation to earn a living. If the reports are to be believed, 70 percent of the Jogi-Nath community still depends on this occupation. India banned the live snake show back in 1991, but some in rural areas still reportedly earn a living from this.
