Love is the biggest blessing one could have, and marriage is a pivotal milestone in that journey. However, love is not always met with bright smiles and warm hugs. Harshad and Mrudula's story was similar until their younger generation decided to rewrite it for them.
Mrudula and Harshad's life-long dream of getting married in the presence of their entire family came true 64 years after their first wedding. The couple dreamt of marrying each other in a lavishly decorated venue in the presence of love, laughter and blessings of their loved ones. However, back in 1961, when the couple initially tied the knot, it seemed like a far-fetched dream.
According to reports by Ahmedabad Mirror, the couple's love story began when they were teenagers. Mrudula and Harshad lived in Dhana Suthar, where they first met and developed a close bond. They would exchange secret signals by switching lights on and off. They would exchange letters with the help of their respective friends. While their love was evident, there was the fear of societal judgement surrounding inter-caste marriage.
Their love met with strong opposition from their respective families, who were relentlessly forcing them to give up on their love. However, they remained adamant and decided to elope. In 1961, Mrudula and Harshad got married in secret, and only four of their closest friends were present.
They tied the knot in Arya Samaj Mandir after Mrudula's Brahmin family was opposed to her marrying Harshad, who was a Jain. The couple had to give up on their dream of having a proper marriage due to their family's stern decisions. While some of Mrudula's family still remain distant, Harshad's family welcomed them soon after their marriage.

According to the same reports, Mrudula's nephew, Darshan Jani, and his wife, Stuti, played a pivotal role in making their dreams come true. The nephew revealed that he was thirty-five years old when he came to know that he had a maasi. He shared that he was once talking to his aunt when she told him that she got married in a Rs. 10 saree. Mrudula had to sell her gold years afterwards.
Darshan further shared that it was his wife, Stuti, who sensed the sadness in Murudla's voice about not having a chance to have a proper wedding with the proper rituals. He revealed that it was at that point that they decided that they would fulfil their dream of having a complete wedding celebration. Darshan and Stuti made all the arrangements for Mrudula and Harshad's wedding and even performed their aunt's kanyadaan. Talking about the same, Mrudula was quoted as saying:
"My nephew performed the ritual role of my parents, and what can be a bigger blessing than this! I was dancing and singing through two days of celebrations, and when I held my husband’s hand in the chori, I was living my dream. I couldn't ask for more."
What are your thoughts on Mrudula and Harshad getting their dream wedding years after they tied the knot?
