Bollywood is not always about the glamorous red carpets, shimmering lights, and picture-perfect moments. Beyond this glorious facade lies the grim reality where things are not always what they seem on the outside. Such a revelation was recently made by Bollywood actress, Nushrratt Bharuccha. The Chhori 2 actress opened up about the emotional toll of chasing stardom, revealing that she often feels 'terribly lonely' in the industry.
In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Nushrratt Bharuccha got real about the world beyond stardom when she returns home. The actress has made a mark in the industry with her impressive acting in films like Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, and most recently Chhori 2. When asked about how lonely it can get in the industry, Nushrratt responded by saying:
“You know, you asked me this question at a very, very wrong time in my life. So it’s not okay, and it’s terribly lonely… Mere paas ek friend hai, Ishita Raj. Aur uske saath yeh bond banana, it took time. Yeh jo thick friendship waala scene hai, woh industry mein rarely hota hai, to be very honest. But hum dono hain. And pata hai, yeh recent months ki baat hai when I told her, ‘Ishita, who do I have yaar? Where are the friends? Where’s the support system? Where is that one person?’”
In an especially touching moment during the interview, Nushrratt recalled winning an award recently. While such moments are especially valuable for an artist, for Nushrratt, it was heartbreaking as she had no one to celebrate the victory. Talking about the same, the actress revealed:
“Memory bhi chali gayi. Kis cheez ke liye mila tha award? Kis cheez ke liye? Ki bhai, baithe baithe aa gaya award… kis cheez ke liye mila tha — yaad nahi hai mujhe. Jabki insaan toh poori zindagi unhi awards, accolades ke peeche bhaagta hai. But mujhe yaad kya hai? Ki main award leke gaadi mein bethi thi, and I was alone. I said to myself, ‘Whom do I tell yaar? I’ve won an award. Kis ke saath celebrate karoon? Khushi kis ke saath baantoon?’ It’s time only.”
Nushrratt slammed the societal expectation to always be brave and composed, even at the cost of mental peace. The 39-year-old star called out the toxic culture of glorifying solitude, especially in showbiz circles, where it has become a prevalent functionality system. She shared:
“Loneliness ek prevalent functionality system ban gaya hai. Why are we glamorising it? I honestly don’t understand that. I don’t understand why it’s so okay to say, ‘Oh, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t affect me.’ And why is it looked down upon when you pick up the phone and say, ‘Hey, I’m vulnerable. Hey, I would like to spend some time with you. Hey, can I—let’s go on a drive, let’s get ice cream, or let’s do a coffee. I’m not feeling the best.’ Yeah, why? Why? I really don’t know.”
Nushrratt Bharuccha made her debut in acting with a small role in the 2002 show, Kittie Party. She made her film debut with Jai Santoshi Maa and featured as a lead actress for the first time in Love Sex Aur Dhokha. The actress rose to fame with her roles in films like Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Akaash Vani, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Dream Girl, Chhalaang and more. Nushrratt was last seen in Chhorii 2 with Soha Ali Khan.
