Despite being one of the biggest actresses in Hindi cinema, Nirupa Roy lived a simple life far from the media's attention. The actress got married at the age of 15 and moved to Mumbai from Gujarat with her husband, Kamal Roy. For the uninitiated, Kamal Roy was also an actor, who appeared in films like Bobby, Manoranjan, Ponga Pandit, Aap Beati, and many more. The couple welcomed two sons, Yogesh Roy and Kiran Roy.

Apart from all the success that Nirupa Roy achieved professionally, something controversial also happened in her life that created a stir back then. For the uninitiated, it was the year 2001 when Nirupa Roy's daughter-in-law, Una Roy, registered a police complaint against her. In her complaint, Una Roy made severe allegations against Nirupa Roy, as she clearly mentioned that her mother-in-law harassed her for dowry.

Not only this, Una Roy also accused Nirupa Roy and her husband, Kamal Roy, of having alleged black money. The case shocked the entire film industry, and it was an extremely difficult moment for Nirupa Roy because the allegations made by her daughter-in-law were quite severe.

However, after the police had investigated the case thoroughly, they could not find evidence that supported Una Roy's allegations against Nirupa Roy. As a result, the court upheld Nirupa Roy's arrest, and the actress received a clean chit in this extremely controversial case. The iconic actress passed away on October 13, 2004, due to a cardiac arrest at the age of 73.

At the time of her demise, there were rumours that Nirupa Roy reportedly suffered a heart attack after she got heartbroken seeing her sons, Yogesh and Kiran, fight over property. There were reports that Yogesh and Kiran were reportedly pressuring her to name the property in their respective names. Seeing her sons fighting over property, Nirupa Roy couldn't deal with it mentally and emotionally. As a result, she suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away in 2004, leaving a lasting legacy behind her in Indian cinema with her memorable work.
