Nikki Tamboli has always been open about her life and personal struggles, and it was no different when she finally celebrated the festival of colours with her father. After her impressive stint in Bigg Boss 14 and Khatron Ke Khiladi 11, Nikki is currently winning hearts, and also satisfying the taste buds, on Celebrity MasterChef. In the recent episode, the actress had an emotional moment as she celebrated Holi for the first time in three years. Nikki has now spoken up about why she stayed away from the fun-filled festival all these years.
Nikki Tamboli’s elder brother, Jatin Tamboli, passed away in May 2021, due to complications related to COVID-19, as he was also battling pneumonia and tuberculosis. The family was shattered by his untimely death, and Nikki hasn’t celebrated Holi since. In an interview with Pinkvilla, the actress spoke up about the reason behind it, stating that it did not feel the same without her brother. She confessed:
"For the past three years, I haven't played Holi the way I used to after my brother's passing. The festival just hasn't felt the same without him."
However, celebrating Holi with her father on Celebrity MasterChef turned out to be an unexpected moment of emotional healing for Nikki. Playing with colours, especially alongside her father, with whom she hadn’t shared such joyful moments in years, became a significant turning point in her journey. Recalling the emotional moment, Nikki shared:
“But during Celebrity MasterChef, something changed. My father and I played Holi together for the first time since my brother's demise. It was an emotional moment- there were tears in my eyes, yet a part of me felt connected to the festival again. Even now, I don't let anyone put colours on me, but Holi will always be close to my heart."
Although Nikki still hesitates when it comes to colours, calling herself more reserved now, she cherishes the emotional significance of Holi. She also opened up about the cherished memories of Holi with her brother, recalling the fun they had with the whole family. Recalling her childhood days, Nikki shared:
"My most cherished Holi memories are from my childhood, celebrating with my brother. We would team up to drench everyone in colours, throw water balloons, and have the best time running around the neighbourhood. The entire family would come together, making it a day filled with laughter and fun. Those carefree days, when Holi was all about excitement and togetherness are something I deeply treasure.”
Nikki further shared that food has always been a special part of her Holi memories. Back when she and her brother, Jatin, were young, the celebrations at home were never complete without homemade snacks. After hours of playing with colours, the entire family would come together in the kitchen to prepare festive treats like vada pav and thandai, turning it into a joyful family tradition.
