If you are someone who is into cooking, you have most likely heard of Nigella Lawson's name. Over the years, she has appeared on several cooking shows on television. In fact, in 1999, Nigella made her debut on the small screen by hosting her own cooking show on Channel 4 called Nigella Bites. Averaging over 1.9 million viewers, the show earned her the Television Broadcast of the Year at the Guild of Food Writers Awards and the Best Television Food Show at the World Food Media Awards a year later, in 2001. Even today, one look at Nigella's cooking is enough to make everyone's mouth water.

However, it is worth noting that, in addition to her cooking shows, Nigella is also an established food writer. She published her first cookery book, How to Eat, in 1998, followed by her second book, How to Be a Domestic Goddess, in 2000. Focusing primarily on cooking, Nigella's second book even won her an Author of the Year title at the British Book Awards in 2001, after defeating renowned authors like J. K. Rowling. Currently, fans of Nigella Lawson might be able to see her on The Great British Bake Off after being tipped to replace Prue Leith as a judge on the show. As we await an official announcement for the same, let's take a look at Nigella's personal life, which has also made headlines because of the men she was married to.

It was back in the ‘80s that Nigella Lawson met her first husband, John Diamond. Before making her TV debut, Nigella was in charge of the restaurant column for The Spectator in 1985. Soon, she managed to secure the position of Deputy Literary Editor at The Sunday Times. According to reports, Nigella was only 26 years old at the time. It was while working here that she bumped into Diamond, who was a writer for the newspaper. During a casual conversation with The Guardian, Nigella revealed that what attracted her to him was that “he had this sense of ease in himself, and that made the air around him comfortable.” Eventually, three years after Nigella and Diamond met, the duo finally tied the knot.

Those who know Nigella are aware that she always had a passion for cooking. If reports are believed to be true, as a university student, she would often cook for her peers. She continued to do the same even when she started working for The Sunday Times by serving good food to her colleagues. John Diamond, Nigella's husband, who was working as an op-ed writer and radio and television presenter, was the first one to think that his wife could switch to food writing. Although Nigella was hesitant at first, after more encouragement from John, she wrote How To Eat, a 544-page book filled with amazing cooking recipes as well as tips and tricks. This ultimately kick-started Nigella's food writing career in 1998.

While it seemed like John would still be present by Nigella’s side throughout her growing career, unfortunately, that didn't happen, as John was diagnosed with throat cancer at the age of 43. At 47, he passed away from the same, leaving behind Nigella and their two small children, Cosima, 7, and Bruno, 7. According to a report by The Guardian, after her husband's death, Nigella “spent a lot of time under a duvet,” however, she pushed forward for the sake of her kids.

Just within a few weeks of John Diamond's passing, Nigella was photographed with another man. This man was none other than the advertising mogul and owner of the Saatchi online gallery, Charles Saatchi. After the photographs were published in The Mail, many found it scandalous that Nigella moved on so quickly after John Diamond's death. Interestingly, it was John himself who introduced Nigella to Charles when he was still alive. According to reports, the duo had bonded over several rounds of Scrabble, playing for about USD 300 per game.

After their friendship grew into something more, Nigella moved into Charles' home, when not even a year had passed since she lost her first husband to cancer. According to Nigella, she loved how Charles was a seemingly warm person and had a “passionate energy” to him. In a 2002 interview with The Guardian, she said that Charles is “full of life and very clever and funny and very cosy.” Additionally, Nigella also called him a “nice north London boy.”

After they fell in love, Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi tied the knot in September 2003. However, according to reports, the duo did not have a happy married life. To fans, Nigella's life looked pretty happy as she continued to film her cooking shows, Nigella Bites, Nigella Feasts, Nigella Express, and Nigella Kitchen. The fact that Nigella wasn't truly happy on the inside was revealed by her friend, Nathaniel Goldberg. In an interview with the Mirror, he revealed:

"They clearly adored each other, but the atmosphere always depended on his mood. And his mood was variable. Hers was no longer the house you just dropped into, and Charles was not one to sit around the kitchen table cracking jokes."

Nearly a decade after their wedding, in 2013, it was finally proven that Nigella was in an unhappy marriage. At the time, a photo of Charles grabbing his wife's throat, in what appeared to be a violent manner, in a restaurant, was published by several newspapers. Ultimately, this appeared to be the last straw for Nigella, who divorced Charles just a month later.
