Bollywood actor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, grandson of legendary singer, Mukesh, hit the headlines after the 2009 Filmfare Awards when his interaction with superstar, Shah Rukh Khan sparked debate. The old video recently resurfaced on the internet after all these years, but this time, the New York actor has revealed his side of the story.

A video from the 2009 Filmfare Awards featuring Neil Nitin Mukesh apparently asking Shah Rukh Khan to ‘shut up’ has resurfaced on social media, sparking debate once again. The moment, which initially left audiences in shock, has long been discussed as an instance of the young actor standing up to SRK. However, Neil has now clarified what really happened during that interaction.

Neil recently appeared for a candid chat with Hindi Rush where he addressed the incident that sparked debate among fans regarding whether he disrespected SRK. The actor expressed his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan and dismissed the claims that he had insulted the superstar. Addressing the viral video, Neil said:

“Mera bada simple manana hai, hum ek aise era mein hain jahan, main Shah Rukh sir ki baat nahi kar raha hun. his seniority and I love him so much myself. I want to clarify that I would never say ‘shut up’ to my seniors, but it was a show and there were so many things at play there. That conversation is entirely different, and I am not even talking about that."

About the infamous exchange between Neil and SRK

So, what had really happened between Neil and Shah Rukh back in the day? During the 2009 Filmfare Awards, SRK, who was hosting the show, jokingly questioned Neil about his name, saying:

“I have a question for Neil Nitin Mukesh. Tumhara naam hai Neil Nitin Mukesh, bhaiya surname kahan pe hai? Saare ke saare first names hain.”

The remark made by SRK was made purely out of jest, but in the video clips that surfaced after the event, Neil appeared visibly uncomfortable, and he made a firm retort to the superstar's remark. After seeking permission to speak, Neil responded by saying:

“That is an insult for me actually, I feel. It’s not right. I think you haven’t seen, but my father is sitting out here. I think you guys just need to shut up. I’m sorry.”

While many saw this as Neil taking a stand against SRK and co-host, Saif Ali Khan, the actor now insists that the moment was misunderstood and that he deeply respects his seniors in the industry. Neil further explained that his comments were taken out of context and that the entire exchange was only a part of the scripted nature of the awards show.
