Neetu Kapoor Yelled At Her Father-In-Law, Raj Kapoor, He Said, 'Don't You See A Difference In...'

Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor will always be the iconic couple in Bollywood who have reinstated our faith in love and marriage. The golden couple of Bollywood fell in love with each other when they were very young. After dating each other for years, Rishi and Neetu took the wedding plunge on January 22, 1980.

Just after his debut film, Bobby, Rishi became a star, and when Neetu ventured into acting, Rishi was already a huge star. The duo worked together for the first time in the film, Zehreela Insaan, and their on-screen chemistry paved the way for their off-screen romance. Neetu often recalls several funny anecdotes from her married life with Rishi and once the actress revealed yelling at her father-in-law, Raj Kapoor.

Neetu Kapoor once yelled at her father-in-law, Raj Kapoor

In Ritu Nanda’s book, Neetu Kapoor recalled the time when she mistook Raj Kapoor to be Rishi Kapoor and yelled at him. It so happened that Neetu was upset and angry with Rishi for getting drunk. She called the Kapoor house, and Raj Kapoor picked up the call. Thinking it was Rishi, Neetu gave him a nice firing. In her words:

“Once when I was dating my husband, he was very drunk when he went home. I was very angry with him. I called him up and fired him on the phone. I was stunned when I heard from the other end, only one sentence, ‘Don’t you see a difference in the voice between a father and a son?’ Their voices were so similar and I was very embarrassed."

Rishi Kapoor asked Neetu Kapoor’s mother to stay with them

When Rishi proposed to Neetu, her mom, Rajee was over the moon. But Neetu had guilt in her mind. She was the sole breadwinner of the house, and she did not want to leave her mother all alone without anyone supporting her. But Neetu’s 'knight in shining armour' came in and solved her dilemma. He invited Rajee to stay with them after marriage.

In a 2003 throwback interview with Rediff.com, Neetu Kapoor had talked about her grand wedding with Rishi Kapoor. Sharing details of her big fat Punjabi wedding, Neetu said that her wedding took place at the Golf Course in Chembur, Mumbai. As it was one of the biggest weddings of the year, the entire film industry was invited.

Rishi Kapoor fainted at his wedding

For one of the biggest weddings of that time, the entire area from RK house to the golf was cordoned off. During the interview, Neetu revealed that there were many uninvited guests at their wedding who gate-crashed the wedding with big gifts. When the couple opened the gifts, they found stones in it.

Rishi and Neetu's wedding festivities went on for 20 days. In the same interview, Neetu also shared that she had fainted at her wedding, and so did Rishi Kapoor. In her words:

"I fainted at my wedding and so did my husband [Rishi Kapoor]. My lehenga was too heavy. Plus, there were too many people. It was too much for me to handle. My husband fainted because he couldn't take the crowd. He fainted just before he was to climb on the ghodi."

In 2018, Rishi Kapoor was diagnosed with leukaemia and went to New York for treatment. In 2019, the actor returned to India after his treatment. On April 29, 2020, the actor was hospitalized after he complained about difficulty breathing. On April 30, 2020, the 68-year-old actor bid adieu and left for his heavenly abode, leaving a huge vacuum in the lives of friends, fans and family. 

Even after so many years, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor are still the most loved couples in Bollywood.
