According to a report by India.com, her net worth is around USD 1.01 billion, which is around Rs. 8395 crore. Neerja, before giving wings to her company, was associated with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Her real-time net worth, as per a Forbes 2025 report, is more than USD 1 billion. It was back in 2024 when Neerja got the 27th rank after she came on America’s Richest Self-Made Women list. She also got the 2,692nd rank on the list of the richest people in the world, as per an India.com report. It was back in 1980 when Neerja and her husband, Bharat Desai, together created Syntel in Troy, Michigan.
For the unversed, Neerja and Bharat started their company, Syntel, from their small flat, which was located in Michigan. The couple had vivid ambitions and pooled in investments to start something of their own. Both Bharat and Neerja had invested Rs. 16,000 USD, which is approximately around Rs. 1,328,000 to start Syntel, and it grew beyond their expectations. As soon as the company started blooming, it was in the first year when it generated USD 30,000, which is around Rs. 24.90 lakh.
It was in 2018 when the company saw immense growth. The couple then together led a French IT firm named Atos SE and gained a whopping USD 3.4 billion, around Rs. 28,690. A report by Forbes also stated that Sethi had an estimate of around $510 million, which is roughly Rs. 4,233 crore for her stakes. However, she did not Atos after it was acquired. Earlier, in her own company, Syntel, till 1980, she worked as an executive.
Neerja's husband, Bharat, is an Indian billionaire who, like many others, went abroad to seek better career-related opportunities. He is also one of the main backbones behind his company, Syntel, which he co-founded with his wife. The company that started off from a flat back in 1980 with just USD 2,000 in Troy, Michigan, earned them unbelievable revenue. Bharat was born in Kenya and was raised in India. The Indian-origin American billionaire, who is 72 now then shifted to the USA back in 1976 and worked as a programmer for TCS. According to a report by DNA, his net worth is USD 1.6 billion, which is around Rs. 13,501 crore. He stands at the 2111 spot in the list of billionaires.

Bharat's alma mater is IIT Bombay, from where he completed his bachelor's in electrical engineering. He also has a degree in MBA Finance from the famous University of Michigan. He reportedly resides in Fisher Island, Florida and also has an American citizenship. Bharat's wife, Neerja, is also a billionaire, and the couple had met in the USA, and is also blessed with two kids. His first job as a programmer got lucky for him as it was because of that in USA he could meet Neerja. Both of them developed a mutual interest in making their own enterprise and then took the boldest step of creating Syntel in 1980.
