Neena Gupta is a name that needs no introduction. A stupendous actress and a doting mother, Neena is the perfect embodiment of women empowerment. An M.Phil in Sanskrit, Neena left her comfortable life in Delhi and landed in the city of dreams to make a career in Bollywood. With no Godfather in the industry, Neena managed to make a name for herself and is now counted among one of the finest actresses of Indian cinema.

Neena Gupta’s life is an inspiration to millions. Just like her struggles in Bollywood, her personal life too was never a bed of roses. From falling in love with an already married man to giving birth to his child out of wedlock, Neena has seen it all. It was her confidence that helped Neena to raise her daughter, Masaba without anyone’s help.
Neena Gupta’s autobiography, Sach Kahun Toh was launched recently. In her book, Neena had penned down the struggles of her life. In one of the chapters, Neena shared her parent’s relationship with each other and why her mother attempted suicide. Neena revealed that her mother, Shakuntala Gupta, a Punjabi girl married Roop Narain Gupta, who was from a different caste.
She further revealed that her father, Roop Narain courageously married her mother, Shakuntala but had later succumbed to his family’s wish to marry a girl from his community. Shattered and broken by his decision, her mother attempted suicide. Neena expressed empathy for her mother and wrote, “This betrayal from my father shattered my mother to the extent that she actually tried (and thankfully failed) to end her life.”

She also shared how it took her sometime to realize that it is not normal for a man to be torn between two families. In her words, “It took me a while to realize that it wasn’t normal for fathers to leave after dinner every evening That fathers didn’t come home in the morning for breakfast and a change of clothes before leaving for the office. That fathers didn’t spend the night with some variation of ‘Seema Aunty’ (that’s what we called his other wife; name changed).”
It was in the '80s when Neena Gupta had met West Indian cricketer, Vivian Richards in Mumbai. After multiple meetings, Neena and Vivian had fallen in love with each other. Both Neena and Vivian were madly in love with each other. When Neena was pregnant and a wedding with Vivian wasn't possible, as he was already married, Neena had taken the bold step to give birth to their daughter.
