The true epitome of women empowerment, Nayanthara’s journey in the entertainment world was never easy. Though the actress bagged her debut Malayalam film, Manassinakkare, by chance, her presence in the film was highly appreciated. After a few Malayalam films with some of the top actors, Nayanthara entered Kollywood and won many hearts with films like Chandramukhi, Ghajini, Billa, Bodyguard, Thani Oruvan, Viswasam, Bigil and many others.
In a male-dominated industry, Nayanthara is the first actress to bag the title of 'Lady Superstar' and has paved the way for many to follow. Though she had a successful career graph, her personal life always caught the attention of the media. Be it her alleged affair with ace choreographer Prabhu Deva or the leaked intimate pictures with actor Simbu, Nayanthara’s personal life was always a topic of gossip.

One such rumour was the actress’ alleged affair with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Karunanidhi’s grandson, actor, Udhayanidhi Stalin. Rumours have it that Udhayanidhi Stalin fell in love with Nayanthara when they were shooting for the film, Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal in 2014. During the making of the film, the two even went to the Palani temple, after which rumours of their relationship started.
As per reports, Udhayanidhi’s grandfather, Karunanidhi, had warned him, but their intimacy continued. Udhayanidhi was already married when rumours about his affair started doing rounds in the media. Not just this, for his next film, Nannbenda, the actor cast Nayan in the female lead. However, when Nayan refused to acknowledge his love towards her, the actor reportedly tried to end his life.
As per a fellow actor, Udhayanidhi tried to commit suicide and was rushed to the hospital. The hospital authorities also confirmed the same. When the news about the actor surfaced on social media in 2014, his supporters blamed Nayanthara, and the actress received a lot of hate due to this.

In 2021, ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, actor-turned-politician Radha Ravi attacked Udhayanidhi Stalin and questioned his relationship with Nayanthara. The politician had previously made a derogatory comment about Nayanthara, which caused Udhayanidhi’s political party to temporarily dismiss him. Questioning the same, Radha Ravi asked the party who Nayanthara was to them. He also said that he doesn't care if Nayanthara and Udhayanidhi are in a relationship.
With time, the rumours about Nayanthara and Udhayanidhi’s affair faded, and the duo became cordial. The actress’ documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale, was recently released, and she penned a letter on her social media thanking Udhayanidhi Stalin, Shah Rukh Khan, Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, and other producers for granting her the NOCs without hesitation.
In her recently released documentary, Nayanthara spoke about her relationships and stated that her trust was broken. The actress added that in all her relationships, she had given it all. However, she was always questioned and subjected to criticism. She further added how a lot of these stories broke her, and to date, no one has asked any of the men what had happened. In her words:
"You just believe the other person is also in love with you. More than love, it’s trust. And you give it your all. But people assume a lot of things. It broke me when people assumed stories about it. Till today, no one has asked any of the boys what happened."
After falling and failing in love multiple times, Nayanthara found her Mr Perfect in filmmaker, Vignesh Shivan. Nayan and Vignesh’s love story began during the shooting of their film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. The couple kept their relationship a secret and dated for a few years before tying the knot in June 2022. Months after their wedding, the couple welcomed twins, Uyir RudroNeel N Shivan and Ulag Daiwik N Shivan, via surrogacy in October 2022.
Though Nayanthara had been in many failed relationships, every broken relationship of hers taught the actress a lesson and only made her strong.
