The much-awaited 70th National Film Awards were announced on August 16, 2024, by the NFDC (National Film Development Corporation of India). The prestigious film awards only included movies that were certified by the Censor Board between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022. As per multiple reports, the winners of the National Film Awards, along with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, will be felicitated by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in October 2024 at New Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan.
For the uninitiated, NFDC has divided the National Film Awards into two major categories. In the first category, they have two awards, Golden Lotus (Swarna Kamal) and Silver Lotus (Rajat Kamal). The Golden and Silver Lotus Awards are awarded in several categories. In the second category, NFDC has included the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Awards, which is hands down the biggest honour in Indian cinema. Every year, the award is given to a film personality who has contributed heavily to the Indian cinema.

In 2023, the legendary actress, Waheeda Rehman received the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition to the awards and nationwide recognition, the winners also receive cash prizes. For the uninitiated, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award winners receive Rs. 15 lakh, Golden Lotus Award winners receive Rs. 3 lakh, and Silver Lotus Award winners receive Rs. 2 lakh.
According to a report in NDTV, the winners of the Golden Lotus (Swarna Kamal) Award in the categories like Best Film, Best Debut Film of a Director, Best Direction, Best Film in AVGC, and others will receive Rs. 3 lakh. Talking about the results of the National Awards 2024, Attam's director, Anand Ekarshi wins the Best Film Award, Fouja's director, Pramod Kumar wins the Best Debut Film of a Director Award.

Not only this, Kantara's actor and director, Rishabh Shetty won in the Best Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment category, Sooraj Barjatya won the Best Direction award, and Brahmastra-Part 1: Shiva's director, Ayan Mukerji wins the Best Film in AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comic) award. All these winners of the Swarna Kamal category will receive a sum of Rs. 3 lakhs.

Moving on to the list of film personalities who won the Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus) awards and will receive Rs. 2 lakh, we have some big names. South superstar, Rishab Shetty won the Best Actor Award, while Nithya Menen and Manasi Parekh won the Best Actress Award for their respective films, Thiruchitrambalam and Kutch Express. Fouja's actor, Pavan Raj Malhotra, won the Best Actor in a Supporting Role Award.

Bollywood's evergreen diva, Neena Gupta, won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Award for her exceptional acting in the film, Uunchai. Not only this, critically acclaimed singer, Arijit Singh deservedly wins the Best Male Playback Singer Award for his song, Kesariya, from the film, Brahmastra-Part 1: Shiva. All the winners of the second category, the Silver Lotus Award, will receive a sum of Rs. 2 lakhs each.
Apart from all these categories, Manoj Bajpayee and Sanjoy Salil Chowdhury are the two film personalities, who are going to get honoured at the 70th National Film Awards. For the uninitiated, Manoj Bajpayee will receive a certificate for his impressive performance in Gulmohar, while music director, Sanjoy Salil Chowdhury will be honoured for his work in the Malayalam film, Kadhikan.
