The world has its eyes set on the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2025, which is presently in action. Among the celebrities who have graced the red carpet this year, the most awaited personality is definitely Nancy Tyagi. Coming from a small town in Uttar Pradesh, she rose from anonymity to fame after wearing her self-made gorgeous outfits at Cannes 2024. Needless to say, she outshone prominent Bollywood divas at the red carpet and she even took over Cannes 2025 with her arrival. From her mint green coloured floor length gown to her pearl-encrusted mini-dress, netizens couldn't stop talking about the girl's hard work. However, just as her looks created buzz on the internet, singer, Neha Bhasin shared a new post about Nancy's second outfit at Cannes, which has ignited a new controversy. 

Did Nancy Tyagi copy Neha Bhasin's outfit?

Neha Bhasin recently took to her Instagram handle and shared her old photo from a concert where she wore a pearl-encrusted corset-style dress. In the next story, she shared a picture of Nancy Tyagi's second outfit at Cannes 2025 which had a striking similarity to her outfit. She questioned if Nancy's dress was originally made by her, starting a new debate among the fans. Sharing the post, she wrote:

“This outfit looks too familiar. Hmm just wondering.”

The dress in question here is Nancy's mini-dress with a voluminous overcoat at the event. It featured multiple strings of different sizes lined over it which gave a glam and glitzy touch to the outfit. On the top, the dress had an embellished sweetheart neckline, with panelled work over it in the same colour. Nancy paired it with a beige overcoat, with puffed sleeves and a long trail. The diva completed her look with a triangular shaped bag.

After the issue gained limelight, Neha shared a picture of the dress which is available from The Source in Mumbai. Later, Diet Sabya, an anonymous fashion critique revealed The Source in Bombay is a common stop for celeb stylists to rent accessories, archival pieces, shoes, bags etc. It mentioned their majority stuff includes first and second hand copies. The Instagram handle also shared that the pioneer of this chain corset style dress is from a brand called, The Blonds and its owner told them that Nancy Tyagi didn't copy it, rather took it from them but didn't give credit. Sharing its views on the matter, Diet Sabya penned:

“Anyway I don't remember the moral of the story now but Nancy's story and hustle is valid and there is nothing that can diminish it.”

After taking a look at Neha and Nancy’s posts, netizens had mixed reactions to the controversy. One netizen called out Neha Bhasin and penned, “Not defending Nancy but why is Neha acting like she is the designer of the dress and Nancy stole her design?” Another person defended Nancy and wrote, “Did she make it herself, yes, she never claims she designs it too. She takes inspiration from the internet rather than completely designing her outfits. That's public information I thought.” Another Reddit user replied to this comment and called out Nancy by mentioning, “The entire conversation is not about her copying, but sourcing it and claiming to have made it.”
