Nancy Guthrie's Kidnapping, Not Tommaso Cioni, Carlos Palazeulos Is Suspect? Sheriff Reveals

It's been almost two weeks since Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Arizona home under mysterious circumstances. The Today Show host, Savannah Guthrie's mother, was last seen at night on January 31, 2026 (ET) by her daughter, Annie Guthrie and son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni. Recently, the FBI got their hands on photos and videos of a masked person of interest and an unmasked individual who was seen in front of Nancy's door a week before her abduction. Amid that, a sheriff investigating the case shared whether they have identified anyone specific as a suspect.

Is Carlos Palazeulos a suspect in Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping? Sheriff responds

Carlos Palazuelos is a 36-year-old delivery driver from Rio Rico, Arizona, who was stopped by law enforcement south of Tucson and detained for questioning. Authorities also searched his home and vehicle as part of the investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old, Nancy Guthrie. After several hours of questioning, he was released without charges; however, the public interest in him continued. Recently, during an interview with journalist Matt Finn, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos was asked whether Carlos is currently a suspect in the case. He said they released Carlos at that time because they had "no reason" to detain him; however, he wouldn't say whether they had cleared him yet.

While the Sheriff emphasised that the family has been "100% completely" cooperative with every request, he clarified that "nobody is ever really eliminated" until the investigation is complete. The Sheriff's comment comes amid viral theories regarding Nancy's daughter, Annie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni's involvement in the abduction. Although there aren't any named suspects in the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping case, as shared by the FBI and local police, nobody has been cleared yet.

Latest updates regarding the Nancy Guthrie missing case

Investigators recently recovered DNA from Nancy's property that does not belong to her or anyone in "close contact" with her, which typically includes immediate family members. This evidence is being analysed at a private lab in Florida. While the Guthrie family remains uncleared, the FBI and Sheriff's Department are currently focused on a masked, armed suspect captured on doorbell camera footage of the victim's Tuscan home. As the FBI publicised the photos and videos of the masked man, the internet was buzzing with speculations regarding his identity. Most public predictions point to two specific names: Nancy's son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, and his Early Black bandmate, Dominic Evans.

Why does the public suspect Tommaso Cioni as Nancy Guthrie's kidnapper?

Some social media users claim the recently released footage of a masked person of interest in Nancy Guthrie's case matches Tommaso Cioni's physical profile, specifically citing his build and facial hair (moustache and beard). "I've been suspicious about this guy for a week. Intruder has the same slow shoulders, oaffy build & dark facial hair too," an X user wrote. The public also based their prediction on the fact that "the intruder sure knew the area around the Nest camera," since it had been concealed effectively. However, the attention shifted to Tommaso's friend, Dominic Evans, after an investigative journalist claimed the former's height was more than that of the 5'9" to 5'10" tall kidnapper.

Why does the public think Dominic Evans is the masked kidnapper of Nancy Guthrie?

Dominic Evans was in focus for his connection with Nancy Guthrie's daughter, Annie Guthrie's husband, Tommaso Cioni. Tommaso, Dominic's Early Black bandmate, was named a "prime suspect" in Nancy's abduction by NewsNation journalist, Ashleigh Banfield. Online speculation about Dominic intensified after several X users claimed that his athletic build and visible facial hair (a dark moustache and goatee) aligned with the masked kidnapper. "The lips and eyes [of the suspect and Dominic] are uncanny," an online user stated.

Recent online speculation has also compared an alleged wrist tattoo seen on the masked kidnapper of Nancy Guthrie to Dominic Evans. Several online users visited Dominic and Tommaso's band, Early Black's old videos and spotted something inked on the former's wrist. The drummer's alleged tattoo received attention after former FBI supervisory special agent and criminal profiler, Jim Clemente, shared with Fox News that a potential tattoo on the right wrist of the masked subject in the FBI-released footage could be a critical identifier.

Investigators have not received any updates on Nancy Guthrie's whereabouts, even twelve days after her disappearance. The Guthrie family still awaits some hopeful news.
