While their fans were waiting for the 'good news', their divorce had broken many hearts. All of the separation rumours had ended when the couple had taken to their respective IG handles and had issued a statement that could be read as:
"To all our well-wishers. After much deliberation and thought Chay and I have decided to part ways as husband and wife to pursue our own paths. We are fortunate to have a friendship of over a decade that was the very core of our relationship which we believe will always hold a special bond between us."

According to several media reports, Nagarjuna had been quoted as saying that it was Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who had pushed for the divorce and not his son, Naga Chaitanya. On January 27, 2022, Nagarjuna took to his official Twitter handle to clear the air on his stand over his son, Naga Chaitanya's divorce with his ex-wife, Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
"The news in social media and electronic media quoting my statement about Samantha & Nagachaitanya is completely false and absolute nonsense!! I request media friends to please refrain from posting rumours as news."
For the unversed, an interview in Indiaglitz had reported that Chaitanya's father, Nagarjuna had revealed that it was Samantha, who had wanted the divorce, and his son had agreed to her decision. The superstar was quoted as saying:

Further in the report, Nagarjuna was also reported to have mentioned that in Sam and Chay's four years of marriage, they had never faced any situation like this. He was too shocked when he had heard about it, and Chaitanya had consoled him. The actor was quoted as:
"Naga Chaitanya consoled me very much as he thought I will be worried. They both have been together for 4 years in the marriage life but no problem like this came between them. Both were so close and I don't know how it came down to this decision. They even celebrated 2021's New Year together, it seems that the problems have arisen after that."

"With a heavy heart, let me say this! whatever happened between Sam and Chay is very unfortunate. What happens between a wife and husband is very personal. Sam and Chay are dear to me. My family will always cherish the moments spent with sam and she will always be dear to us! May God bless them both with strength."
On the professional front, Nagarjuna is gearing up for his upcoming movie, Brahmastra.
