Naga Vamsi Calls Telugu Audience Unpredictable, Says 'Lokah' Wouldn't Work As A Telugu Movie

Producer Naga Vamsi and actor Ravi Teja have recently released a promotional video for their upcoming film, Mass Jathara, which is set to be released in theatres on October 31, 2025. During the promotional video launch, the talk highlighted the massive success of Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen’s Malayalam superhero film, Lokah Chapter 1: – Chandra, and claimed that the film wouldn’t have been as successful if it were a straight Telugu film. The producer discussed how the Telugu audience responds to non-Telugu films compared to those made in their own language.

Why do Naga Vamsi and Ravi Teja believe the audience wouldn’t accept Lokah if it were a Telugu film?

Naga, who is a producer, shared his opinion about the Telugu film industry. When he was questioned whether he thinks that the Telugu film industry is unable to make content-driven films like those in Malayalam or Tamil, he said:

“Let me tell you something, I released Lokah in Telugu. I know people will cuss me out for this. But if Lokah were a straight Telugu film, they would complain and pick it apart, say that it lacks a certain quality or something else. I would have changed my name if that hadn’t happened.”

Naga further claimed that it is difficult to understand what the Telugu audience will like, using the Mouli-starrer Little Hearts as an example. Ravi also agreed with Vamsi, claiming that Lokah wouldn’t stand a chance if it were a straight Telugu film. He said nobody would watch it; we don't know what will click. He said:

“The Telugu audience has become such that we’re on the edge. Look at Little Hearts, nobody knows the actors and crew. But the premiers had good bookings. Nobody can predict what they want to watch now.”

What is Lokah Chapter 1 all about?

The film Lokah, based on Kerala’s folklore, states the story of the 'Yakshi Neeli’, a supernatural female spirit from the Kaliyankattu forest. The film modarnises the mythological fantasy of a female ghost seeking revenge by incorporating supernatural and vampire elements. The original story is about a woman named ‘Ali’ who is murdered for her gold by her husband, ‘Nambi.’ She becomes a vengeful spirit, 'Neeli,' who lures and kills men in the forest.

Lokah is the first Malayalam film to cross the mark of more than rs 300 crore worldwide. In the film, Lokah, Kalyani Priyadarshan takes on the role of 'Chandra.' Tovino Thomas, known for his dynamic performances, makes a memorable cameo as 'Michael', hinting that he will be one of the leads in chapter 2. Additionally, Dulquer Salmaan also appears in a brief yet impactful role as 'Charlie.'
