The brutal attack on Saif Ali Khan left everyone shocked. For the unversed, Saif Ali Khan was stabbed on January 16, 2025, in his Bandra apartment. As per the initial reports, the attacker, who was from Bangladesh, started fighting with Saif after being confronted by the actor. In the process, Saif was stabbed six times, with two of the wounds being serious. Not long after his surgery, Saif was seen walking out of the hospital himself, which raised some questions as people wondered how he had recovered so fast. Recently, reports suggest that the fingerprints of the accused did not match those recovered from the crime scene. However, the police have now denied the same.
Earlier, a section of the media had questioned whether the Mumbai police had arrested the right person in the case regarding the attack on Saif Ali Khan. Some reports suggested that the arrested accused, Shariful Islam (30)’s, fingerprints did not match those that were collected from the crime scene as evidence. However, the Mumbai police have now rubbished all such claims. Satyanarayan Chaudhary, Joint Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, addressed the reports regarding the fingerprints not matching the accused and clearly stated that they were 'not true.'
On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-9, Dixit Gedam, denied the claim while stating that the fingerprint report was ‘yet to come.’ A CID officer refused to offer much clarity on the situation, simply stating:
"The case is being investigated by the Mumbai police, and you must check with them. The report has been sent to the Mumbai police forensic lab."
The Bandra police had reportedly collected 20 fingerprints as evidence from Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra West home, Satguru Sharan, following the brutal attack on him. The attack took place on January 16, 2025, and the accused, Shariful Islam was arrested on the 19th of the same month in Thane. Following the accused’s capture, his fingerprints, as well as those collected by the police, were sent to a forensic lab for comparison.
Earlier today, January 28, 2025, some media portals suggested that a system-generated report had established that the prints were not a match. Sources mentioned in the report further suggested that the Mumbai police had been informed about the negative result by the CID. Following this, the Bandra police reportedly sent more samples for testing.

However, following the Mumbai police’s dismissal of the fingerprints not being a match, the latest media reports have suggested that the police are still awaiting the fingerprint and blood match reports. Besides fingerprints, the police also collected Saif Ali Khan’s blood and the accused’s bloodstained clothing, both of which were sent for forensic testing.
In other news, a police team was sent to Kolkata to investigate how the accused, Shariful Islam, managed to purchase a SIM card in the city while using the documentation of an Indian national. The police are also investigating how the accused attacker managed to get a weapon. A facial recognition test of the accused is still pending. Shariful Islam will remain in police custody until January 29, 2025.
What do you think about the Mumbai police denying the reports about the accused attacker’s fingerprints being different from those collected from the scene?
