Sanya Malhotra starrer, Mrs., reignited the buzz around women and how they are, by default, subjected to manage housework in a patriarchal setup. While the film hit the right chord among countless fans, it had an adverse effect on the male character, 'Diwakar Kumar' played by Nishant Dahiya. He has received hate messages from across the nation from both men and women.
In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Nishant Dahiya revealed that his character has received a lot of hate from across the nation. While he understands females sending him hateful messages, they are men, too, who are sending him extreme hate for his character. He was quoted as saying:
"For my character, I have got a lot of love-hate! I have got such lovely messages from women who have told me that they hate my character Diwakar but they really appreciate my work. But the most extreme reactions I have gotten are from men! Men have texted me saying, ‘You dumb***k actor, go and eat rat poison!’ ‘Die somewhere, you mother****er!’"
Nishant further revealed that he was shocked at receiving such messages from men. He also shared that someone texted him stating that he isn't worthy of being an actor as he accepted this bad role. He said:
"If I had gotten this from a girl I would have understood but I am getting this from men. I think it is more about Diwakar, something they did not like about Diwakar and it touched a nerve in them somewhere. Then there was this bizarre message which I don't recall completely but it was somewhere in the lines of, 'You are not worthy of being an actor! Because if you were worthy of being an actor you would not have accepted this bad part. You don't even have the sense of accepting a part.'"
The 34-year-old actor Nishant's role as Sanya Malhotra's husband, 'Diwakar Kumar' in Zee5's Mrs. The way he portrayed the character of the emotionally unavailable husband to the protagonist left many personally hurt when they watched the film. Not only this, in the film, he even emotionally abused her, which further made people loathe him.
Talking about receiving the intense hate, Nishant revealed in an interview with the Mid-Day that he had watched Jeo Baby's The Great Indian Kitchen and how people hated the husband's character. So, he was scared of taking up the offer as he didn't wanted people to hate him. Sharing his thoughts, Nishant said:

"I had seen The Great Indian Kitchen [2021] before and loved the [story] and hated the husband's character. So, when Mrs was offered to me, my first reaction was, 'I don't want to be this person.' I didn't want people hating me. After Kedarnath [2018], people abused me on social media. The smallest of things affect me. One [negative] comment also affects me a lot. But I am trying to work on that."
