Sanya Malhotra’s popular film, Mrs., is currently leading all the headlines for the immense love it has been receiving from all walks of life. The film shows the domestic routine of a woman’s life while living in a traditional and patriarchal family. The film, which stars Sanya Malhotra in a titular role, has Kanwaljit Singh play the role of her father-in-law.
Now, Kanwaljit Singh took to his IG handle and shared a Reel by enacting a viral scene from the film but with a twist. In the Reel, Kanwaljit is seen happily cooking food and serving it to a woman, whom he calls ‘beta’. The word 'beta' was used by the actor in the film for Sanya. While serving the food to the woman, Kanwaljit says:
“Beta maine aapki mummy ki recipe pe banaya hai aaj.”
As the woman sits and takes the first bite of the food, Kanwaljit excitedly asks her how the food is. The woman, however, responds in a critical tone. Instead of praising his efforts, the woman, with a blank expression, says, ‘Namak kam hai’. Hearing the same, Kanwaljit retires back into the kitchen. Soon, the woman tells him:
“Chai bana dena.”
As soon as Kanwaljit shared the video, an array of fans commented on it. One of the users wrote, “Loved this!! Role reversal! Ab jara chutney bhi bana dijiye.” Another user commented, “On behalf of the whole women community, ab pata chala?”
For the unversed in Mrs., Kanwaljit plays the orthodox and strict father-in-law to Sanya, who plays the character of 'Richa'. He never gets tired of finding faults in Richa and always pinpoints her mistakes. During an interview with India Today, the actor shared that he had shot for the movie a long time back and had not remembered his role. When he was invited by the production team for the red carpet event, he remembered the shooting and said:

"All I remember was how I ate a lot of food; otherwise, I didn't remember much. Since that film, I have shot for almost four other projects, so I had forgotten all about the character. When I saw the film, I felt so disgusted that I instantly went to Sanya and said sorry."
Directed by Arati Kadav, Mrs. is a Hindi adaptation of the Malayalam hit The Great Indian Kitchen, which portrays the story of a newlywed woman who navigates regressive patriarchal traditions. It premiered at the 2024 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and was also screened at the New York Indian Film Festival. The film stars Sanya Malhotra, Nishant Dahiya and Kanwaljit Singh in pivotal roles.
