Moushumi Chatterjee was one of the finest actresses of her time in Bollywood. She has been paired with many of the A-listed superstars back in the day, including Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Mehra, Shashi Kapoor, Jeetendra, and Rishi Kapoor, among others. In her personal life, she is married to Jayant Mukherjee, the son of eminent playback singer, Hemant Mukherjee. While she has been known for her exemplary acting skills, another part of her personality has also been known for her unapologetic nature and the fact that she does not mince her words before blurting facts. And proof of the same was found in her recent interview, where she revealed how she befittingly gave back to an ugly remark by Rajesh Khanna, which left the late actor shocked.
In one of her latest interviews with Lehren Retro, Moushumi recalled receiving an ugly remark from her co-star, Rajesh Khanna, where the latter questioned whether Vinod Mehra was her child's father. For the unversed, Moushumi has starred along with Vinod Mehra in many films, which subsequently gave rise to the rumour that she was involved with him. While such an offensive remark hurt Moushumi, she befittingly gave it back to Rajesh Khanna with a similar kind of remark about his kids, which shocked him. In her words:
“Rajesh Khanna played dirty many times. Yes, I gave him back. I asked him, ‘Is it Rishi Kapoor’s child or yours?”

Well, even after being levied with such a nasty remark, Moushumi mentioned how she buried the past and went to see Rajesh Khanna during his last days at the hospital. In the same interview, she recalled how Rajesh praised her before her younger daughter and mentioned how nearly everyone was scared of her back then. She mentioned:
“Today, he is no more. I went to see him also in his last stage. He was praising me in front of my younger daughter. He said to her, your maa was mad but we were all scared of her. She doesn’t believe in any nonsense.”
Going further in the same interview, Moushumi highlighted how this outspoken and straightforward nature of hers led her to get rejected and replaced in many of her films, primarily because she was not in the good books of the film's main hero. Mentioning how her no-compromise nature left her out of work at times, she said:
“Not only ‘Desh Premi’. ‘Barsaat Ki Ek Raat’ as well. I signed it but then I was out of the picture. Because I never compromise. I had to be ‘yes woman’ on everything. And I can’t do it. Even a lot of elder heroines adviced me that you have good looks and talent but you are not in the good books of the heroes.”

Despite being of such exquisite talent, Moushumi’s journey in Bollywood was comparatively shorter. While her bold and ‘no-nonsense’ outlook was one reason for the same, it was also because she herself was not quite serious about her profession. Speaking about the same, once in an interview, Moushumi recalled how she never thought about how to keep up her stardom and take care of her career seriously at a time when nearly everybody expected something great from her. In her words:
“I never gave my 100% as an actress. I was never under any pressure because I already had what I wanted. I never valued my career and my stardom."
This has not been the first time that Moushumi has extrovertedly corrected someone who has made an unfavourable remark about her. For instance, she had bluntly corrected eminent filmmaker, Mahesh Bhatt, who once told her that her career, which was steadily going up, would crash due to her pregnancy. In an interview, Moushumi spoke about correcting Mahesh by adding that her kids have brought colours to her life. She mentioned:
“Mahesh Bhatt once said that whenever your career goes up, you become pregnant. He said that these are the obstacles in my career. I corrected him and said that they added colors to my life."
