Mouni Roy has been among the finest actresses on Indian television who rose to fame for playing powerful fantasy characters on-screen. From playing the titular role of a shaping icchadhari Naagin in Naagin to the unbeatable sorceress 'Junoon' in Ayan Mukherji's Brahmastra, the actress has come a long way. People admire her acting skills for essaying these strong roles with power, but with fame also comes ridicule, and Mouni is not different. The actress often becomes a subject of mockery among netizens who tag her as 'Bhootni' or 'Naagin' based on her roles which made her a household name. As the actress prepares to play another similar role, she shares her reaction to the mockery.
Mouni Roy is all set to again portray the supernatural character of a ghost in the upcoming film, Bhootnii. The actress, who is on a promotional spree for her film, recently sat down for a conversation with Zoom. During the conversation, the actress was asked if she feels bad after receiving mockery as 'Naagin' or 'Bhootni" on-screen. In her reply, the actress shared that as an actor, she will love her craft and portray different roles.
In addition, Mouni believes that when actors choose to portray a fantasy fiction or a mythological character on-screen, they should believe in it to in turn make the audience believe it. She highlighted that no one can fool the audience into believing a character is real when they themselves don't believe it. Consequently, she is rather happy that people resonated with her work and doesn't stresses over mockery. She explained:
"When you are doing a genre which is a historical or a fantasy fiction or a mythological character, if you don't have the conviction as an actor, the audience is never going to believe you. You can't fool them. You can't fool anybody. But if you truly believe in the world that you are put in, that these characters are actual people, if you live their journey and do it honestly, audiences also kind of resonate."
Mouni Roy gained attention when she played the role of 'Krishna Tulsi' in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi at the mere age of 19. Over the years, she has worked on her looks, skills, fitness and style. But trolls often compare her old and new pictures to criticise the 39-year-old actress for undergoing plastic surgery. Mouni has kept mum over it for long, but recently at Bombay Times Week, she addressed the claims and mentioned that she doesn't give significance to faceless trolls hiding behind a screen. In her words:
"Kuch nahin. Dekhti hee nahi. Let everyone do their job…I do not pay attention to such remarks. If you hide behind a screen to troll others, and if you find happiness in that, so be it."
Mouni Roy made her debut by featuring in the iconic drama, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2006. She was also seen in film and TV shows, including Do Saheliyaan, Naagin and Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev, among others. She will be next seen in the film, Bhootnii, which also stars Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Singh, Palak Tiwari, Aasif Khan, and YouTuber Beyounick. The film is set to release on May 1, 2025.
