Molly Qerim has been leading the headlines as she announced her decision to step away from her role as a host on ESPN's First Take. Today, we'll take a look at Jalen's extensive career, which wasn't limited to sports but also extended to philanthropy and media.
Jalen was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and attended Southwestern High School and the University of Michigan. During his college days, he was part of the legendary 'Fab Five' in the early 1990s, where he and his teammates revolutionised the sport of basketball on and off the court, as shared on his personal website. The entire group reached the NCAA Championship games in 1992 and 1993, and in the following year, 1994, Jalen Rose was drafted 13th overall, following which he started his professional NBA career.
Jalen played from 1994 to 2007, and was known for being a strong-skilled passer, scorer and defender. He played for the Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors, New York Knicks, and Phoenix Suns over 13 seasons of his NBA career. Jalen retired back in 2007, and he had a career average of 14.3 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. For his exceptional skills during his NBA career, Jalen also garnered several accolades, including the NBA Most Improved Player award in 2000.
Jalen Rose earned a degree in mass communication and even a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland. He had been passionate about pursuing a career in multimedia, sports, and entertainment. After retiring from the NBA, Jalen soon transitioned into the world of glamour by signing on as an analyst on ABC/ESPN. While being there, Jalen had been a part of several flagship shows.

In 2012, he became the studio analyst for ESPN's pre-game show, NBA Countdown. In 2013, Jalen grabbed the attention after he started co-hosting the popular podcast and show, Jalen & Jacoby, with David Jacoby. The show ran till 2022, and it brought success to Jalen. During the same time, Jalen also appeared as a guest analyst on ESPN's morning talk show, Get Up! According to the reports, Jalen was laid off by the channel in 2023.
After a short break, Jalen Rose returned to the limelight with NBC Sports, being a studio analyst for Big Ten College Countdown on PEACOCK. In 2025, he made a guest appearance on TNT's Inside the NBA and served as a CBS Sports commentator for March Madness. Regarding his philanthropic work, he founded the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) in Detroit, which provides educational opportunities to underprivileged children. Jalen also advocated for social equity and opportunities for minority youths, among others.
Regarding Jalen Rose's relationship with Molly Qerim, the duo confirmed their relationship in 2016. It was two years later, in 2018, that the duo got married in a close-knit ceremony in NYC. Well, things seemingly started deteriorating between Molly and Jalen, as they parted ways back in 2020, and in the next year, she filed for divorce. In December 2021, Molly revealed that their divorce was finalised and that they would focus on being each other's friends and colleagues.
