Reena reportedly was madly in love with Shatrughan Sinha. However, destiny had other plans and Shatrughan got married to Poonam Sinha in 1980. Three years later in 1983, Reena then, tied the knot with the man of her dreams, Mohsin Khan.

Goher Iqbal Punn also revealed in his article that it was Jaya Bachchan who helped Reena Roy to take the decision to marry Mohsin.

Following their wedding, Reena took a long break from her career and became a perfect bahu of Pakistan. Well, after 6 years of their marriage, Mohsin and Reena returned to India. After their return to India, Reena got her husband an offer in Bollywood in JP Dutta’s Batwara in 1989, which featured Shammi Kapoor, Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna, Asha Parekh, Poonam Dhillon and Dimple Kapadia. Later, Mohsin remarried a Pakistani girl, and that's when Reena was given custody of their daughter. After getting their daughter's custody, Reena changed her name to Sanam. In an old interview, Reena had said that she had done everything to get her daughter, even went to saints and sadhus for the same.
