Mohanlal has always been in the headlines, courtesy of his incredible filmography and legacy as an actor in Indian cinema. Apart from acting, Mohanlal prefers to live a quiet life far from the reach of the media spotlight. However, there's an incident that happened back in 2024 that created a stir across the Indian film fraternity because it was related to the #MeToo movement in the Malayalam film industry. For the uninitiated, amidst the Kolkata doctor's brutal rape and murder case, #MeToo revelations turned into a wave in Kerala, particularly in the Malayalam film industry.

For Mohanlal, the trouble didn't end here, as he started receiving a lot of backlash for his comments in an old interview from 2019. According to a report in The Times Of India, Mohanlal sat down in a conversation with Gulf News Dubai in 2019 and shared his opinions about the #MeToo movement. The actor made a dismissive remark, and that too with a laugh. He said, "We can also come out with #MeToo. Gender wise, we should also start #MeToo". Mohanlal continued to make another absurd statement as he said:

"There's no big problem in the Malayalam industry … You shouldn't think of the #MeToo as a movement actually. It's a fad and it's turning into something of a fashion. Anything like that will have a lifespan for a bit."

The critically acclaimed actor is married to Suchitra Mohanlal, who is a renowned film producer. The couple got married on April 28, 1988, in a lavish wedding. After some years of their wedding, Mohanlal and Suchitra welcomed two children, Pranav Mohanlal and Vismaya Mohanlal. While Pranav is a renowned actor, Vismaya works as an assistant film director in the film industry.
