Sangeeta Bijlani, the former Indian actress began her career as a model, when she was just 16 years old. She is well-known for winning the title of Femina Miss India 1980. Sangeeta made her acting debut in 1988 with the film, Qaatil. Coming to her personal life, Sangeeta once had a stable relationship with Bollywood superstar, Salman and the duo had plans to get married. However, their relationship hit a rough patch, after the actress found Salman cheating with another actress, Somy Ali.
Just like her relationship with Bollywood superstar, Salman, Sangeeta’s love story with former captain of the Indian cricket team, Mohammad Azharuddin, has also garnered a lot of limelight. The couple first met during an ad shoot in 1985. It was a love at first sight moment for the ace cricketer. In 1996, Sangeeta tied the knot with Azharuddin. However, after 14 years of marriage, the duo parted ways in 2010.
Sangeeta and Azharuddin’s divorce became a highly-publicized event in 2000s. According to multiple reports, the reason behind their separation was due to Azharuddin’s alleged extramarital affairs. However, there was a particular name of a woman that surfaced at the time of Sangeeta and Azharuddin’s divorce. Yes, you guessed it right. We are talking about Indian badminton player, Jwala Gutta. Multiple reports claimed that the former captain of the Indian cricket team, Azharuddin had an alleged affair with Jwala, and their growing closeness was the reason behind Sangeeta and Azharuddin’s split.
In 2010, the couple officially announced their separation after 14 years of marital bliss. However, the duo never publicly addressed the reason behind their marriage fallout. Earlier in a past interview with Hindustan Times, the former Indian cricketer addressed the buzz around the alleged linkup between him and Jwala. In his words:
"I’ve known Jwala for many years. She’s a friend and will always be. I have many friends but does that mean that I am going around with them? Why spoil a lady’s reputation? Just leave her alone. These are planted stories and motivated by people, who are against me in the Badminton Association of India. They are so upsetting."
Earlier in a 2010 interview with HT City, Jwala also talked about the controversy of linking her up with Azharuddin. Jwala shared that she and Azharuddin have known each other for over eight years and she is just shocked to hear the linkup news. There were also rumours that the former Indian cricketer also gifted Jwala a BMW car that she used. However, in the interview, she shut down the rumours and said that it was not true. In her words:

The chemistry between personalities from Bollywood and cricket, has always been the talk of the town, and Sangeeta and Azharuddin’s love story was also no exception. The duo met for the first time during an ad shoot in 1985, and it was love at first sight moment for the former Indian cricketer. It took very less time for the couple to be head over heels in love with other. But, when romance brewed between the two, Azharuddin was married to Naureen.
The couple also welcomed two sons, Mohammad Asaduddin and Mohammad Ayazuddin. For the unversed, Azharuddin tied the knot with Naureen in 1987, but in 1996 they got divorced after his much publicised affair with Sangeeta. In the same year on November 14, 1996, Azharuddin got married to the former Indian actress at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai. After their marriage, Azharuddin and Sangeeta became one of the most talked about couple in the industry.
