English Actor Michael Caine Married To Indian Woman For 52 Years, Fell In Love With Her In 8 Minutes

Michael Caine fell in love with Shakira Baksh after watching her in a TV commercial

In 1970, Michale Caine saw Shakira Baksh for the first time in a Maxwell House coffee commercial and within eight minutes, the actor fell head over heels in love with her. It was love at first sight for him, and since the ad was shot in Brazil, he decided to go to Brazil to meet her. In a throwback interview, Michael spoke about seeing Shakira for the first time and said:

“I saw this lady on the television in a commercial and fell in love instantly. And it was a commercial for coffee in Brazil. I just watched her and I thought, that's the woman for me.”

Michael Caine persuaded Shakira Baksh to meet him

Shakira Baksh is a former fashion model and a beauty pageant title holder. Shakira was born in British Guiana to Muslim Indian parents. Since her mother made dresses, Shakira wanted to follow in her footsteps and become a fashion designer. However, her striking beauty and features landed her in the entertainment and fashion world.

After Michael fell in love with Shakira, he sought help from his friends to go to Brazil to meet her. One of his friends in the advertising told Michael that Shakira was an Indian and lived in London. The actor got her number from his friend and tried to persuade her persistently. Out of the 11 times he called her, she refused going out with him 10 times. But during the last call, she agreed.

Michael Caine and Shakira Baksh got married in Las Vegas

Soon after falling in love, Michael and Shakira tied the knot on January 8, 1973, at a civil ceremony at the Candlelight Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. Michael and Shakira welcomed their daughter the same year. The couple recently completed 52 years of marital bliss. Michael, who is 92 years old, once said that if she hadn’t been there, he would have been dead long back.

Despite five decades of marital bliss, Michael and Shakira are madly in love with each other. In an interview with a leading publication, Michael once revealed the impact of Shakira in his life and said:

“I trust and listen to Shakira more than anyone. She is the kindest and wisest person I’ve ever met… We are very different from each other, but when we’re together we’re one person. I can’t imagine life without her.”

Over the years, Shakira and Michael have been each other’s pillar of strength. She has accompanied Michael to all the premiers of his film. Before marrying Shakira, Michael was married to actress, Patricia Haines, and the couple has a daughter.
