Mel Gibson is headed for a divorce from his long-time girlfriend and wife, Rosalind Ross, after being quietly separated for a year. Mel and Ross have been married for almost a decade and share a son, named Lars.
Mel and Rosalind began dating in 2014, years after Mel split from his second wife, Oksana Grogorieva, with whom he had a daughter in 2009 and split in 2010. Before Oksana, he was married to Robyn Moore for 29 years, and the two welcomed seven children, until their divorce in 2009.

Mel Gibson is an American-born Australian actor best known for his roles in Lethal Weapon, Mad Max and other thriller adventure films. He is a popularly acclaimed director, producer and screenwriter. Mel gained international acclaim with Mad Max 2 and established himself as a star with Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and the Lethal Weapon series, which began in 1987. Mel’s film Braveheart won him five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Mel is a father to nine kids, namely, Hannah, Christian, Edward, William, Louis, Milo, Thomas, Lucia and Lars. Mel has been in the spotlight for 40 years now, having done some of the remarkable works as an actor, director and screenwriter. Although he has had his share of controversies over the years, including his political remarks, public divorces and legal custody battles.

Rosalind first rose to fame as a professional equestrian, and according to Closer Weekly, Ross competed at the World Equestrian Games in 2010, winning a gold medal, and is honoured in the AVA Hall of Fame. Apart from being an ace equestrian, Ross is a successful screenwriter known for lending her skills in well-known films like Matador, The Contract, Escaping North Korea and Black Swan.

Mel and Rosalind met when Rosalind was taken on to co-write a script for Mel’s production company, Icon Productions. They started dating in 2014 after meeting to discuss work on the project she was hired on board for at Gibson’s 500-acre ranch in Costa Rica. Ross and Mel have a significant age gap, but it was not a point of conflict between them.

Mel and Ross seemed inseparable at the time as the actor spoke fondly about Ross during multiple interviews and openly addressed issues regarding their age gap. In a 2016 interview with The Mirror, Mel was in the news for dating 26-year-old equestrian Rossto, who he said:
"Regarding age and relationships, it's just a number," Gibson said at the time. "She is an adult, and we dig each other. It might cause a problem, and one has a trepidation about these things, but it's working out great. She is a really special person."
They went on a romantic getaway to Panama, according to The Daily Mail, after leaving Costa Rica. Ross also accompanied Mel to Sydney for avacation and visited him on sets while he was filming for Hacksaw Ridge.
Mel Gibson and Rosalind shared a joint statement on December 30, 2025, about their separation after almost a decade of marriage. They announced via PEOPLE that it was a sad decision, but they are blessed with a beautiful son, and he is their priority right now, and so they will continue to co-parent him and be the best parents possible.

The couple kept their relationship away from the spotlight, but when their son was born in 2017, it became hard for them to keep it separate from their professional lives. When Mel found out about the birth of his son, it was at the same time he heard about him being nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for Hacksaw Ridge, commenting on which he said:
“What could be more exciting than listening to the nominations being announced while holding my newborn son.”
If reports are to be believed, 2025 was not a good year for Mel and his family, and he had quietly separated from Ross for over a year but only solidified the separation at the end of 2025 in a publicly announced joint statement. Mel and Ross lost their Malibu home in the Los Angeles wildfires in 2025. The tragedy occurred when Mel was out of town, but his family was home and evacuated safely. Speaking about the experience during a January appearance on Elizabeth Vargas Reports, Mel said:
"The good news is that those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way. That’s all I can care about, really."
