In the documentary episode of E! True Hollywood Story, Meghan’s friend, Simone revealed that she knew it was all coming as Meghan was divorced, and half-black. She had known that the royals will be mean to her. In her words, “She was divorced, she’s half-Black. I was like, ‘Oh, my God. They’re gonna be so mean to her.'” For the unversed, Meghan was earlier married to film producer, Trevor Engelson and the two had divorced in August 2013.

Meghan had made some startling statements, indirectly quoting the racism she and her baby boy faced or how she was ill-treated in the palace. During the interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan had told that the royals had a discussion with Harry before their son, Archie's birth, and he was denied the Prince title because they were concerned about how dark his skin colour might be. She had said, "They didn't want him to be a prince." She had further added how there were "conversations about how dark his skin might be when he's born."

When Oprah Winfrey had asked Meghan about 'the incident' of which there were reports that she (Meghan) had made Kate Middleton cry days before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan had retorted, "No, the reverse happened. It was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something. But she owned it, and she apologised, and she brought me flowers and a note apologising. She did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone, to just take accountability for it. A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something pertaining to ... flower girl dresses. And it made me cry." She had added, "And it really hurt my feelings, and I thought in the context of everything else that was going on in those days leading to the wedding, it didn't make sense to not be just doing whatever everyone else is doing, which was trying to be supportive knowing what was going on with my dad and whatnot."

When Oprah had asked Meghan, "How do you feel about the Palace hearing you speak your truth today?", in regards to her relationship with the royal family, she had said, "I don't know how they could expect that after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us. And if that comes with the risk of losing things, I mean -- there's a lot that has been lost already."
