Tyson Fury is a renowned British professional boxer. During his amateur career, Tyson represented both England and Ireland. It is worth noting that, as a junior, he was ranked No. 3 in the world, behind Russian boxers, Maxim Babanin and Andrey Volkov. After turning pro at the age of 20, Tyson has won several heavyweight championships. This includes unified titles from 2015 to 2016, the Ring magazine title two times between 2015 and 2022, and the World Boxing Council (WBC) title from 2020 to 2024.  

At present, Tyson Fury is preparing to take on Arslanbek Makhmudov after coming out of his latest retirement. However, amid this, Tyson's father, John Fury, has made it clear that he does not want his son to return to the boxing ring. Not only did he claim that Tyson is “past his best”, but also that his “relationship with Tyson is destroyed.” According to John, he is in deep pain after feeling pushed aside and unheard by his son. John Fury was born on May 22, 1964 and is of Irish and British descent. He is a retired professional boxer and bare-knuckle fighter. At present, most people know John as the father of Tyson Fury, a two-time heavyweight world champion, and Tommy Fury, a professional boxer and reality television star. Many might not be aware, but John is also the uncle of heavyweight fighter, Hughie Fury. He also has two other sons from his marriage to Amber Fury, Shane and John Fury Jr.

Interestingly, John Fury revealed that Tyson Fury was named after Mike Tyson, the then-unbeaten heavyweight world champion. In an old interview, John mentioned that when Tyson was born, he had a very slim chance of survival. This was after John had lost his two daughters to premature birth. Well, currently, John is the grandfather of Tyson's seven children, Venezuela, Prince John James, Prince Tyson II, Valencia, Prince Adonis Amaziah, Athena and a baby boy.

According to a Sportskeeda report, John Fury comes from a family with boxing ancestors. After he himself took up the sport, John fought as a bare-knuckle boxer. He usually went by the moniker ‘Gypsy’ John Fury before he moved up to the professional ranks. To mention, John had previously said that the majority of his fights were “usually over in seconds.” Adding that he “wasn't a particularly big puncher”, John claimed that despite this, he would “not stop swinging before they were out cold, I'd hit them with hands, elbows, head, teeth, and feet until they fell.”

John Fury turned pro on April 28, 1987, making his debut in Halifax, West Yorkshire, against Adam Fogerty. According to reports, John then won his next six fights before reaching a draw with David Hopkins in Helsinki on February 13, 1989. Some of his most notable matches throughout his career were against opponents like Adam Fogerty, David Hopkins, and Steve Garber.

As a heavyweight, John Fury has fought 13 matches out of which he has won 8. To mention, he lost his only title battle to Neil Malpass for the Central Area belt. John's professional career came to an end after 8 long years when he was knocked out by Steve Garber on June 10, 1995.

According to reports, John Fury has served 4 years of an 11-year term after he slammed his finger into Oathie Sykes' eye. The incident which took place in 2011 and left Oathie half-blind apparently put an end to a long-running feud between the two. Per the Manchester court, before John assaulted Oathie, he had proclaimed himself the strongest man in Britain.

During his hearing, John sobbed in front of Tyson, then 22, and made a heartfelt plea for mercy. He said, "I'm concerned about my son's safety. His boxing future is in jeopardy. I'd give my own eye to him if it meant getting back to my children – I'm begging you for my life.” Upon hearing this, the victim stated, "It was as if he was trying to pierce my skull with his finger through my socket.” After serving his time, John was released from jail in 2015.
