There’s a common saying, “Behind every successful man is a woman”, and in the case of Sundar Pichai, the visionary CEO of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, that woman is none other than his brilliant wife, Anjali Pichai. While Sundar’s name is often in the spotlight for his groundbreaking work in technology and leadership, it is Anjali who has been a pillar of support throughout his incredible journey. From their time together at IIT Kharagpur, where they first met, to supporting Sundar through the challenges of his career, Anjali has been a steady and silent support system. She has offered her guidance and encouragement at every step of his journey to the top.
Today, Sundar Pichai is among the highest-paid Indian CEOs in the world, earning an estimated salary of 280 million US Dollars in 2024, which translates to around Rs. 2,324 crore. Behind this success was Anjali’s quiet yet profound influence, which makes her an indispensable yet often overlooked force behind his achievements.
Born in Rajasthan, India, Anjali pursued a degree in Chemical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur, where she crossed paths with Sundar Pichai, a fellow student in the same field. What started as a friendship soon blossomed into a college romance, which eventually evolved into a lifelong partnership. Their relationship is built on a foundation of trust, mutual respect, and unwavering support, which has remained strong throughout their journey together.
On a rare occasion, Sundar Pichai openly talked about his love and admiration for the love of his life, thanking IIT Kharagpur for bringing them together. After receiving an honorary doctorate degree, Sundar became nostalgic and said:
“IIT Kharagpur holds a special place in my heart. That's where I met my beloved wife, Anjali, and where I made memories of my second home that I grew up in.”
Anjali and Sundar’s bond is not limited to romantic partnership; it is also deeply intellectual when the need arises. Throughout his journey, Sundar actively sought Anjali’s opinions and input, which helped him make crucial decisions when he felt at a crossroads.

One such turning point came a few years ago, when Sundar, riding high on his success, was being aggressively pursued by top global companies, such as Microsoft and Twitter. Around the same time, Google was still considering him for an executive leadership role. Torn between so many promising opportunities, Sundar turned to his confidante, Anjali.
Anjali’s advice played a pivotal role in Sundar’s career. She encouraged him to stay with Google, assuring him that his future at the company was full of potential. That one decision turned out to be a major game-changer. By staying with Google, Sundar eventually got promoted as its CEO in 2015, and by 2019, he became the CEO of Alphabet Inc., Google's parent company.
Today, with a staggering annual compensation of over 220 million US Dollars, translating to roughly USD 600K a day, Sundar Pichai is one of the highest-paid executives in the world, and he often credits his wife’s timely advice as a pivotal milestone behind this success.
Apart from being the wife of one of the world’s top CEOs, Anjali Pichai is a powerhouse in her own right. A chemical engineer by profession, she previously worked at Accenture and is currently a Business Operations Manager at Intuit, an American software company.
Despite their immense success, Anjali and Sundar make sure to keep their family grounded. The couple now lives in the United States and has two children, Kavya and Kiran. They keep their family life low-key, away from paparazzi and the press.
In a world obsessed with fame and numbers, Anjali Pichai reminds us that success isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s quiet, thoughtful, and exactly what you need, right when you need it! What do you think about their companionship?
