Who Is Saurabh Luthra? Owner Of Birch By Romeo Lane, Goa, Club Where Cylinder Blast Took 25 Lives

The culture of nightlife has rapidly evolved in India in the past decade. Places like Goa, Mumbai, Delhi and Pune are now known for their nightlife. Even though, everyone loves the idea of enjoying the night, the recent mishap at Goa's popular club, Birch by Romeo Lane, which claimed 25 lives, has concerned everybody.

After the unfortunate fire incident, all eyes have turned towards the owner of the club, Saurabh Luthra. For the unversed, the unfortunate incident took place on December 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of 25 people. As the investigation is going on, several questions have been raised about the owner. Who is Saurabh Luthra?

Reportedly, Saurabh Luthra grew up and studied engineering. According to a report by Hindustan Times, he earned a B.Tech degree and is widely known as a gold-medalist in software engineering from Saurashtra University. If reports are to be believed, before moving into the business of restaurants, Saurabh worked in corporate business development for clients in the US and UK. This experience laid the foundation before he decided to switch careers.

Saurabh Luthra founded Romeo Lane Group in 2016

In 2016, Saurabh Luthra left his corporate business and entered the hospitality business. Soon, he founded the Romeo Lane group. Over the years, it grew from a single outlet to a chain of restaurants and nightlife venues. The official websites of Romeo Lane describe Saurabh as 'gold medalist engineer-turned into a promising and fastest-growing restaurateur'. The websites also appreciate him for his 'splendid work in the F & B industry'.

Over the years, Romeo Lane, the chain of restaurants and bars, is located in multiple cities in India and internationally as well. The websites of Romeo Lane claim that it is currently present and will be coming in 22 cities as well as four countries. The websites also claim that Saurabh Luthra has received multiple awards for his restaurants and bars since 2016. 

Saurabh Luthra’s Birch by Romeo Lane

One of the projects by the Romeo Lane Group is Birch by Romeo Lane. It is a popular dining and night club in Arpora, North Goa. The nightclub is located in the backwaters of the Arpora river, with a narrow entry and exit. On December 6, 2025, late night a deadly fire broke out, which killed many people, including staff and tourists. Reportedly, the reason for the fire was a cylinder blast. As reported by Hindustan Times, some eyewitnesses said that the fire started on the first floor of the club, where 100 people were present. Since, the club has a narrow entry and exit, it was very difficult for the fire brigades to help. Reportedly, they had to stop 400 meters away from the club. 

Did Saurabh Luthra build the club without permission?

As the investigation behind the fire is going on, multiple allegations have been raised on the owner of the club, Saurabh Luthra. Reportedly, it is being said that he built the club, Birch by Romeo Lane without permission. Some have also claimed that the club even lacked safety protocols. However, the Sarpach of Arpora village panchayat, Roshan Redkar had opened up about the same to Hindustan Times and shared:

"This club is being run by Saurabh Luthra. There was a dispute between him and the land owners, as also a dispute between him and his business partners which had led to complaints against the establishment."

He continued to reveal that when they inquired about the club and the owner, Roshan had found that they did not even have a construction license. Regarding the same, Roshan Redkar had even issued demolition notice. He was quoted as saying:

"There were complaints against the club and when we conducted an inquiry we found that there was no construction licence. We had issued a demolition notice after following due process. However, the demolition notice was stayed upon appeal."
