Satya Nadella hardly needs any introduction as the tech giant is responsible for leading Microsoft to greater heights. It was in 2014, when Satya took the throne from Steve Ballmer and became the CEO of Microsoft. The 57-year-old billionaire transformed the company’s corporate culture while emphasizing continual growth and learning.
Born in Hyderabad, India, Satya completed his education in India and later moved to the US to study MS in computer science. He also received an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Despite being one of the leading names in the world, Satya keeps his life private. Satya Nadella's father, B. N. Yugandhar used to serve as a distinguished civil servant in the Indian Administrative Service, and his mother, Prabhavati Nadella, is a Sanskrit scholar.
Behind every successful man, there is a woman and this stands true in Satya’s case too. While Satya focussed on the business, his wife, Anupama Nadella took care of the family. She is the biggest support system of Satya and the backbone of the family. Let us read on to know more details about Anupama Nadella, the first lady of Microsoft.
Anupama is better known as Satya Nadella’s wife, but she is also the daughter of a high-profile IAS officer. Yes, you read that right. Anupama’s father is one of the most respected and highly paid civil servants who worked with the Indian government. As per reports, Anupama’s father had the privilege of serving under the former Indian Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao.
Satya Nadella is a graduate of electrical engineering from the Manipal Institute of Technology, and his wife, Anupama, also has a degree in architecture from the same university. Satya Nadella tied the knot with Anupama in 1992, and the couple became parents to three children. Despite her academic achievements, Anupama chose to be a homemaker and took care of her kids. Sadly, their son, Zain, was differently abled and had cerebral palsy, and Anupama dedicated her life to taking care of him. Satya once stated that their son, Zain, suffered in utero asphyxiation and, once born, needed constant care.
However, in 2022, Satya and Anupama dealt with the painful loss of their 26-year-old son, Zain. It was a devastating moment for both Satya and Anupama. Zain had a profound impact on Satya as his son’s condition made him empathetic towards people.
Dealing with the loss of a child had a shattering impact on Anupama and Satya. While he had his business to divert his mind, Anupama dedicated her time to children suffering from similar special conditions. Anupama joined hands with the Seattle Children's Hospital, where she actively contributed to improving children's health. She donated USD 15 million in 2021 for precision medicine neurosciences and youth mental care.
When Satya got married to Anupama, he was already settled in the US and was a green card holder. On the other hand, Anupama resided in India and had to go through an immigration process. When Anupama had her US Visa application delayed because of the long wait for spouses of Green Card holders, Satya did the unthinkable. He swapped his Green Card for an H-1B visa, making him a temporary worker. As Satya gave up his green card, it made Anupama’s entry to the country easy.
While Satya Nadella is a leading figure in the business and tech world, his wife, Anupama Nadella, is hailed for dedicating her life to people.
