Popular actress, Nusraat Faria has predominantly worked in both Bengali and Bangladeshi films. She rose to prominence with her debut film, Aashiqui: True Love, starring opposite Bengali actor, Ankush Hazra. However, Nusraat's role as former Bangladesh prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, in the 2023 film, Mujib: The Making of a Nation, made her a household name. It was a biopic on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and was directed by renowned Indian filmmaker, Shyam Benegal.
Everything was going well in Nusraat’s world, until her arrest on May 18, 2025. As per multiple reports, the Bangladeshi actress was arrested at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, when she was about to board a flight to Thailand. The arrest warrant that had been issued against the 31-year-old actress, is in connection to a murder case. After the shocking news became public, Nusraat’s fans were stunned and the arrest also raised several questions linked to the case and Nusraat’s past.
Nusraat was born on September 8, 1993, in Chittagong, Bangladesh. She completed her SSC from Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt Anwar Girls’ School & College in 2010. In 2012, Nusraat completed HSC from Rajuk Uttara Model College. She graduated from the University of London with a Bachelor’s degree in Law.
Nusraat began her career as a debater and participated in a BTV debate show. The Bangladeshi actress was a national-level debate champion in 2010 and 2011. She worked as a radio jockey and television presenter before entering the glam world. Nusraat has also hosted a reality show, Fair and Handsome: The Ultimate Man. In 2015, she made her big screen debut with the Bengali film, Aashiqui: True Love.
Since she made her debut in 2015, Nusraat has predominantly worked in both Bengali films and Bangladeshi films. She marked her presence in many popular films, including Hero 420, Badsha – The Don, Premi O Premi, and Boss 2: Back to Rule. The 2016 film, Badsha - The Don, starring popular Bengali actor, Jeet, is considered to be Nusraat’s turning point in her acting career. She also worked with popular Bengali actress, Subhashree Ganguly in the 2017 film, Boss 2: Back to Rule.

In 2023, Nusratt bagged the high-profile role in the film, Mujib: The Making of a Nation. It was a biopic on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh. Nusraat took up the role of Sheikh Hasina, while Arifin Shuvoo played the role of Mujibur Rahman. The 2023 film was a collaborative production of India and Bangladesh, directed by Shyam Benegal.
According to the Prothom Alo report, Nusraat was arrested on May 18, 2025, by the immigration police at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. She was arrested at the airport’s immigration checkpoint, when she was about to board a flight to Thailand. The arrest warrant was brought up against Nusraat in connection to a murder case during the anti-government protests back in July 2024. A case was filed against Nusraat at Vatara police station in Bangladesh, where she was accused of murdering a student during the protests.
The Bangladeshi actress was initially brought to the Vatara police station, but later was shifted to the Detective Branch (DB) office of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). As per the Prothom Alo report, on May 19, 2025, Nusraat was produced at 9:00 am before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court in Dhaka. Chief public prosecutor, Omar Faruq Faruqi told Prothom Alo that a petition had been filed seeking to keep the actress behind bars in connection to the murder case registered with Vatara police station. A hearing is scheduled for May 19, 2025 morning.
Nusraat Faria's arrest is quite shocking for her fans. It is worth considering how this incident will have an impact on her acting career.
