Many actresses swooned the hearts of their fans with their appearances in Bollywood. Some tasted success in the initial phase of their career and then faded away from the industry. One such actress is Mayoori Kango, who is still remembered for her song, Ghar Se Nikalte Hi, starring Jugal Hansraj. The actress appeared in a few Hindi films before quitting the industry forever to chase her dreams.

Mayoori Kango was in class 12 when she made her Bollywood debut

Mayoor Kango made her acting debut in 1995 when she was offered the film, Naseem. Since Mayoori’s mother was a noted stage actress, the former used to accompany her mother and was noticed by Mahesh Bhatt, who offered her the film, Papa Kehte Hai. Mayoori was sceptical about starring in the film since she was in class 12 and had her board exams.

The film garnered Mayoori a lot of love, and she was highly appreciated for her acting prowess. The film’s song, Ghar Se Nikalte Hi, featuring Mayoori and Jugal Hansraj, still brings nostalgia. Mayoori was later seen in films like Betaabi, Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet, Badal and a few others. In 2001, Mayoori moved to television and appeared in shows like Dollar Bahu, Rangoli, Kitty Party, and Karishma – The Miracles of Destiny.

Mayoori Kango left Bollywood to build her corporate career

Mayoori Kango completed her schooling at Saint Francis De Sales Aurangabad and is an alumnus of Deogiri College, Aurangabad. She was chosen for IIT Kanpur, but dropped the idea and joined Bollywood. However, after trying her luck in films and tasting success with it, Mayoori slowly drifted away from the glamorous world.

In a throwback interview with Lehren Retro, Mayoori revealed how the showbiz was dominated by men. Speaking about how pairing with successful male actors can significantly influence a female actor’s career trajectory, Mayoori said:

“Indian films, sadly, remain a man’s domain, because that’s how society functions. No matter how much you want to deny it, it’s still a man’s world. It’s not the heroine who ‘sells’ the territory, it’s the hero. So when a heroine is paired with a successful male actor, it’s believed that some of that success will reflect on her too.”

She married an NRI named Aditya Dhillon in December 2003 and shifted to New York. Later, she enrolled in the MBA in Marketing and Finance program at the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College. From 2004 to 2012, Mayoori worked in America and gained significant exposure.

Mayoori Kango joined Google India as Head of Industry

After working in America, Mayoori returned to India in 2013 and worked as a Chief Digital Officer at Zenith for five years. She then joined Performix as a managing director. In 2019, Mayoori joined Google India as the Head of Industry - Agency Partnership and was later promoted to the position of Industry Head.

As per her latest LinkedIn update, Mayoori has been named as the CEO of Publicis Global Delivery and will be a part of the global executive leadership team. Announcing the big career move, the former actress wrote:

“I'm delighted to share that I've rejoined Publicis Groupe as part of the global executive leadership team for #Publicis Global Delivery (PGD). In this role, I'll be partnering with the PGD Global team to shape our global solutions and services across media, tech, and digital — while also stepping up our AI practice… It feels great to be back — grateful for the warm welcome and excited for the journey ahead.”
