Civil-rights leader, Jesse Jackson was hospitalised on November 13, 2025, for observation related to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). For those who don't know, PSP is a rare brain disorder, and Jesse has been battling it since 2017. While most people across the country are sending prayers to the civil-rights leaders, some are wondering about his wife, Jacqueline Jackson, who has been beside him for more than sixty years now. Reportedly, Jacqueline Jackson grew up in the American South and then later in Virginia. She attended North Carolina A&T State University, where she met Jesse as a young college student. Soon, the two got involved in the civil-rights movement during the 1960s. Later, in 1962 Jacqueline and Jesse got married and the couple raised five children, Santita, Jesse L. Jackson Jr., Jonathan Luther, Yusef DuBois and Jacqueline Lavinia Jackson Jr.
Talking about her role in activism, Jacqueline played a quieter but an important role. She managed both family responsibilities and community work. Over the years, Jacqueline’s public voice has highlighted peace, family support and criminal-justice concerns. Later, she also joined her husband’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition activities.

Apart from being a visible activist, Jacqueline Jackson turned into an author, when her son, Jesse L. Jackson Jr. was imprisoned following his guilty plea to campaign finance offenses. During the tough time, Jacqueline wrote him a letter every day. And later, those letters were compiled and published as Loving You, Thinking of You and Don't Forget to Pray: Letters to My Son in Prison. After Jesse L. Jackson Jr. came out, he and his mother promoted the book together.

On December 31, 2023, Jesse Jackson took to his Instagram handle to share 61 years of his togetherness with Jacqueline Jackson. To celebrate the same, he shared a throwback photo and penned a long yet special note. In his note, he recalled the ups and downs the two have faced in the past 61 years. A part of it could be read as:
"These 61 years have been well worth the chase. Going to Selma, going to jail for public accommodations, going abroad to get Goodman, the 1984 and 1988 races. Things got real tough. But through all the decisions, Jackie told me to hang in there and not to embarrass our people by giving up. I loved her then, and today the love is 60 years deeper. She covered my back in the sunshine days of summer, and the cold nights of winter. Marriage goes through these stages, but she never wavered."
Civil-rights leader, Reverend Jesse Jackson was admitted to hospital on November 12-13, 2025, for observation. Some reports suggest that he was being treated in Chicago. Jesse's team has shared that he is under observation for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare brain disorder. For those who don't know, PSP affects balance, walking, eye movements, speech and swallowing. Reportedly, Jesse was earlier diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, but it was later declared as PSP in April 2025.
Reverend Jesse Jackson, born in 1941, is a well-known civil-rights leader and politician, who has reportedly worked alongside Martin Luther King Jr. For the unversed, he founded Operation PUSH and the Rainbow Coalition. Over his long career, Jesse has been a major national voice for civil-rights and social change. Reportedly, he also ran for U.S. President in 1984 and 1988.
