A total of six people were killed in the mishap, with Ajit Pawar being identified as one of them. Ajit was 66 years old at the time of his death. As details and visuals of the disastrous plane crash surfaced online, condolences poured in from the Indian politician's supporters and loved ones. Ajit Pawar's grieving family rushed to Baramati upon hearing the news. Here's everything we know about his wife, Sunetra and their children.

Who is Ajit Pawar's wife, Sunetra Pawar?

Sunetra Pawar is a prominent Indian politician from Maharashtra and the widow of the late Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, Ajit Pawar. She was born in 1963 and is 62 years old, as of January 2026. Often referred to as 'Vahini' in Maharashtra, Sunetra has recently transitioned from a background in social work and business to active national politics. She was her husband's biggest support both in his personal and professional life. Sunetra is currently serving as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, representing Maharashtra, having been elected unopposed in June 2024.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Sunetra Pawar contested in the high-profile Baramati Lok Sabha seat against her sister-in-law, Supriya Sule, but was unsuccessful. Ajit Pawar later publicly referred to the decision to field her against a family member as a mistake. Beyond her political career, Sunetra is involved in social work. She is the founder of an NGO, the Environmental Forum of India, established in 2010 to promote sustainable living, organic farming, and eco-villages. She also serves as a trustee of Vidya Pratishthan, a major educational institution in Baramati that oversees the education of over 25,000 students.

Sunetra Pawar's entrepreneurship ventures include Baramati Hi-Tech Textile Park, where she serves as the chairperson. The organisation focuses on women's empowerment and employs thousands of rural women. Since 2011, Sunetra has also been a member of the World Entrepreneurship Forum in France. Regarding her high-profile familial background, she is the sister of former state minister and Lok Sabha MP, Padamsinh Patil. Following Ajit Pawar's sudden death, reports suggest that Sunetra is expected to play an increasingly central role in the family's political and social legacy.

Ajit Pawar and Sunetra Pawar's union was an arranged marriage that took place on December 30, 1985. The connection between Sunetra and Ajit's families was deeply rooted in political alliances. Sunetra's sister, Padamsinh Patil, was a very close aide to Ajit's uncle, Sharad Pawar. It was the strong professional and personal friendship between Sharad Pawar and Padamsinh Patil that eventually led to the two families deciding to formalise their bond through the wedding of Ajit and Sunetra. The couple had been married for over four decades and had been blessed with two kids.

Sunetra and Ajit have two sons, Parth Pawar and Jay Pawar. The elder son, Parth Pawar, ventured into politics while his brother, Jay Pawar, manages family business operations in Mumbai and Baramati. Due to his family's prominent political background, Jay contested the 2024 Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, campaigning for his parents. Jay recently got married to Rituja Patil in a grand ceremony in Bahrain in December 2025. Tragically, just within a month of welcoming Rituja to the Pawar family, her father-in-law, Ajit Pawar, passed away.
