The late legendary actress, Meena Kumari and visionary director, late Kamal Amrohi's love story is one of the most fascinating and controversial love stories of all time. While some say it was an abusive marriage, some say it was their age gap of 16 years that had played a huge role in destroying their relationship. Even to this very day, people aren't entirely aware of the things that had gone wrong in their marriage, because of which they had opted for divorce.

On Kamal Amrohi's 104th birth anniversary, his son, Tajdar Amrohi, revealed that he is all set to bring his late father and his stepmother, Meena Kumari's love story, on the big screen. The doting son stated that he and his team are all set to bring Kamal and Meena alive on the screen with their 200-crore project.

Meena Kumari Tragic Love Life

In an interview with Pinkvilla, late visionary filmmaker, Kamal Amrohi's son, Tajdar Amrohi, opened up about his late father's love story and married life with his second wife and iconic actress, late Meena Kumari. The doting son admitted that his stepmother, Meena Kumari, had never given him any reason to hate her. Reflecting on his admiration for her, Tajdar recalled an interesting incident when he had innocently told his stepmother that he would've married her if he was of her age. Recalling the incident, Tajdar stated that both his stepmother, Meena Kumari, and father, Kamal Amrohi, had taken it sportingly. He said:

"Choti Ammi (Meena Kumari) enjoyed having paan with kimam. She looked pyaari when she laughed, her lips red with colour. Once as a kid I innocently remarked, 'Choti Ammi, kaash mein itna chota nahin hota. Phir main aapse shaadi kar leta’. Baba (Kamal Amrohi), who heard this, couldn't help smiling."

In the same interview, Tajdar Amrohi heaped immense praises on his stepmother, late Meena Kumari. He revealed that his stepmother had never told his father, Kamal Amrohi, to leave his first family. That is one of the many reasons, Tajdar had grown extremely fond of his stepmother, Meena Kumari. Tajdar also admitted that Meena Kumari was the love of his father's life. He said:

"Choti Ammi never took Baba away from us. She never asked him to leave us. She respected my mother. She gave me no reason to hate her. I grew extremely fond of her. Having said that, Choti Ammi remained the love of his life."

Meena Kumari Tragic Love Life

For the unversed, Meena Kumari (who was only 18 then) had got married to Kamal Amrohi (34) on February 14, 1952, in a secret nikaah ceremony in the presence of Meena's sister, Mahliqa. However, too many rules and constant surveillance on her whereabouts by her husband, Kamal, had made Meena Kumari had fallen into depression. After a series of arguments and alleged physical fights, finally, in 1964, Meena Kumari had divorced Kamal Amrohi.

The depression had already taken over Meena Kumari, and a doctor had prescribed a small dose of brandy to her so that she could sleep better. But that medicine had become an addiction, and soon, Meena Kumari had started drinking heavily. Sadly, one month after the release of her last film, Pakeezah, Meena was hospitalised at St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home and had died two days after being in a coma on March 31, 1972. After 21 years of her demise, Kamal Amrohi had passed away on February 11, 1993, due to herpes and fluid in the lungs.
