Marshawn Kneeland Was Disturbed With Mom's Demise, Carried Her Ashes In A Locket, Died At 24

Dallas Cowboys player, Marshawn Kneeland's sudden passing news left the entire NFL world in shock and pain. However, it is the cause of death that left people even more concerned, as he died due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. However, it seems like Marshawn was deeply in pain as he once talked about his mother's death and kept her ashes in a locket and always wore it.

For the unversed, Marshawn was left extremely upset by his mother's death. It was an extremely difficult phase for him as he was preparing for the NFL draft. According to the Dallas News, Kneeland was close to his mother. So, after her death, he carried her ashes with him always. He had kept his mother, Wendy's ashes, in a vertically shaped urn which was no bigger than 2 inches in a chain around his neck.

In an interaction with Dallas News, Kneeland revealed that it was tough for him, and he just managed. He revealed that she helped him a lot in his younger years when he wanted to get into football. He always told her about his dream, and when he made it. It was hard that she wasn't with him during the happies face. He said:

"It was definitely tough I just managed it. She helped me a lot in my younger years getting into football. I always had the dream. I always told her, ‘I’m going to the NFL’ and I made it. It’s a hard situation just knowing she got to see me potentially going to the NFL and going through [the process]. She’s still with me. I got this urn of her ashes I carry with me everywhere. I still feel like she’s there watching over me."

Marshawn played his last match on November 3, 2025, against the Arizona Cardinals. he made headlines during the match with his gameplay. It is revealed that Marshawn died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. It seemed like a mental breakdown as his girlfriend mentioned receiving a dispatch audio wherein she alerted the cops that he had called her and bid goodbye. She even mentioned that he was struggling with mental health issues and was armed.

Marshawn Kneeland wasn't an avid social media user. His Instagram had only 40 posts, and a lot was dedicated to his impressive career and humble beginnings, and the rest were love for his family. In the post dated June 1, 2025, Marshawn shared a childhood photo with his mother and his sister. In the photo, Marshawn was giving a proud smile as he posed with the best ladies of his life. In another photos, he also shared his journey on the field and how his family was proudest seeing him. Along with it, he wrote:

Talking about Kneeland's final Instagram post, it was dedicated to his transformation. He had a humble beginning and was selected by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft. The post was dated on October 9, 2025. It included photos on and off the field. He wrote, "Knew I was a trench baby, the way I had their mob psycho." 

Marshawn Kneeland is survived by his girlfriend and family!
